Journal ArticleDOI
Three independent biological mechanisms cause exercise-associated hyponatremia: Evidence from 2,135 weighed competitive athletic performances
Timothy D. Noakes,Karen Sharwood,Dale B Speedy,T. Hew,Stephen A Reid,Jonathan P. Dugas,Christopher S. Almond,Paul C Wharam,Louise B. Weschler +8 more
TL;DR: Weight gain consequent to excessive fluid consumption was the principal cause of a reduced serum [Na+] after exercise, yet most subjects who gained weight maintained or increased serum [ Na+], requiring the addition of significant amounts of Na+ into an expanded volume of total body water.
Journal ArticleDOI
Statement of the Second International Exercise-Associated Hyponatremia Consensus Development Conference, New Zealand, 2007.
Tamara Hew-Butler,J Carlos Ayus,Courtney Kipps,Ronald J. Maughan,Samuel Mettler,Willem H. Meeuwisse,Anthony J Page,Stephen A Reid,Nancy J. Rehrer,William O. Roberts,Ian R. Rogers,Mitchell H. Rosner,Arthur J. Siegel,Dale B Speedy,Kristin J Stuempfle,Joseph G. Verbalis,Louise B. Weschler,Paul C Wharam +17 more
TL;DR: This research presents a state-of-the-art virtual reality system that automates the very labor-intensive and therefore time-consuming and expensive and therefore expensive and time-heavy and expensive process of designing and implementing virtual reality systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Consensus statement of the 1st International Exercise-Associated Hyponatremia Consensus Development Conference, Cape Town, South Africa 2005.
Tamara Hew-Butler,Christopher S. Almond,J Carlos Ayus,Jonathan P. Dugas,Willem H. Meeuwisse,Timothy D. Noakes,Stephen A Reid,Arthur J. Siegel,Dale B Speedy,Kristin J. Stuempfle,Joseph G. Verbalis,Louise B. Weschler,Exercise-Associated Hyponatremia (Eah) Consensus Panel +12 more
TL;DR: The following statement reflects a concise summary of the data deliberated and synthesized by the panel and provides a ‘‘snapshot in time’’ of the current state of knowledge on EAH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Updated prevalences of asthma, allergy, and airway symptoms, and a systematic review of trends over time for childhood asthma in Shanghai, China.
TL;DR: Asthma, allergy and airway symptoms are common among preschool children in Shanghai and the prevalence of asthma in boys was higher than in girls in the present study and in all reviewed studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Indoor formaldehyde concentrations in urban China: Preliminary study of some important influencing factors.
Shaodan Huang,Wenjuan Wei,Louise B. Weschler,Tunga Salthammer,Haidong Kan,Zhongming Bu,Yinping Zhang +6 more
TL;DR: A theoretical model using indoor temperature, humidity, and air change rate was developed to predict indoor formaldehyde concentrations and found good agreement between the literature and modelling in a theoretical reference room to estimate cancer risk from formaldehyde exposure indoors.
