Journal ArticleDOI
Common Features of Environmental and Potentially Beneficial Plant-Associated Burkholderia
Zulma Rocío Suárez-Moreno,Zulma Rocío Suárez-Moreno,Jesús Caballero-Mellado,Bruna G. Coutinho,Lucia Mendonça-Previato,Euan K. James,Vittorio Venturi +6 more
TL;DR: A review examines the commonalities in this growing subgroup of Burkholderia species and discusses their prospective biotechnological applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expression of functional TLR4 confers proinflammatory responsiveness to Trypanosoma cruzi glycoinositolphospholipids and higher resistance to infection with T. cruzi.
Ana Carolina Oliveira,Jaqueline R. Peixoto,Luciana Barros de Arruda,Marco Antônio Campos,Ricardo T. Gazzinelli,Douglas T. Golenbock,Shizuo Akira,José O. Previato,Lucia Mendonça-Previato,Alberto Nobrega,Maria Bellio +10 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that natural resistance to T. cruzi is TLR4 dependent, most likely due toTLR4 recognition of their GIPLs, and find that TLR 4-mutant mice were hypersusceptible to the infection, as evidenced by a higher parasitemia and earlier mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incorporation of sialic acid into Trypanosoma cruzi macromolecules. A proposal for a new metabolic route
TL;DR: Restoration of agglutinability by WGA in neuraminidase-treated cells or cells grown in medium without fetal calf serum occurred equally well in energy-rich or energy-depleted cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary structure of the oligosaccharide chain of lipopeptidophosphoglycan of epimastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi
J. O. Previato,P. A. J. Gorin,M. Mazurek,M.T. Xavier,B. Fournet,J. M. Wieruszesk,Lucia Mendonça-Previato +6 more
TL;DR: The lipopeptidophosphoglycan of epimastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi is composed of a glycan linked through a non-N-acetylated glucosamine residue to an inositol phosphorylceramide via a phosphodiester bridge.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural Characterization of the Major Glycosylphosphatidylinositol Membrane-anchored Glycoprotein from Epimastigote Forms of Trypanosoma cruzi Y-strain
José O. Previato,Christopher Jones,M.T. Xavier,Robin Wait,Luiz R. Travassos,Armando J. Parodi,Lucia Mendonça-Previato +6 more
TL;DR: The kinetics of in vitro sialylation of these O-linked oligosaccharides by the T. cruzi trans-sialidase are investigated and it is shown that incorporation of one molecule of sialic acid hinders entry of a second molecule when two potential acceptor sites are present.
