Journal ArticleDOI
Interplay between inflammation and neural plasticity: Both immune activation and suppression impair LTP and BDNF expression
M.T. Golia,S. Poggini,Silvia Alboni,Stefano Garofalo,Naomi Ciano Albanese,A. Viglione,Maria Antonietta Ajmone-Cat,Abygaël St-Pierre,Nicoletta Brunello,Cristina Limatola,Igor Branchi,Laura Maggi +11 more
TL;DR: The present findings indicate that acute treatment with pro- and anti-inflammatory agents impair neural plasticity in a dose dependent manner.
Journal ArticleDOI
KCa3.1 inhibition switches the phenotype of glioma-infiltrating microglia/macrophages.
Alfonso Grimaldi,Giuseppina D'Alessandro,M.T. Golia,E. M. Grössinger,S. Di Angelantonio,Davide Ragozzino,Antonio Santoro,Vincenzo Esposito,Heike Wulff,Myriam Catalano,Cristina Limatola +10 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that KCa3.1 channels are involved in the inhibitory effects exerted by the glioma microenvironment on infiltrating M/MΦ, suggesting a possible role as therapeutic targets in gliomas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined Fluoxetine and Metformin Treatment Potentiates Antidepressant Efficacy Increasing IGF2 Expression in the Dorsal Hippocampus.
S. Poggini,S. Poggini,M.T. Golia,Silvia Alboni,Giampaolo Milior,Giampaolo Milior,Livio Pepe’ Sciarria,A. Viglione,A. Viglione,Gloria Matte Bon,Nicoletta Brunello,Stefano Puglisi-Allegra,Cristina Limatola,Laura Maggi,Igor Branchi +14 more
TL;DR: The present results show that, when administered in stressful conditions, the combined fluoxetine and metformin treatment may represent a more effective approach than fluoxettine alone in a short term, and highlight the relevance of polypharmacological strategy as effective interventions to increase the efficacy of the antidepressant drugs currently available.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microglia modulate hippocampal synaptic transmission and sleep duration along the light/dark cycle
Giorgio Corsi,Katherine Picard,Maria Amalia Di Castro,Stefano Garofalo,Federico Tucci,Giuseppina Chece,Claudio Del Percio,M.T. Golia,Marcello Raspa,Ferdinando Scavizzi,Fanny Decoeur,Clotilde Lauro,Mara Rigamonti,Fabio Iannello,Davide Ragozzino,Eleonora Russo,Giovanni Bernardini,Agnès Nadjar,Marie-Ève Tremblay,Marie-Ève Tremblay,Marie-Ève Tremblay,Claudio Babiloni,Laura Maggi,Cristina Limatola +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of microglial depletion with the colony stimulating factor-1 receptor antagonist PLX5622 on the sleep/wake cycle and on hippocampal synaptic transmission in male mice were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microglial-glucocorticoid receptor depletion alters the response of hippocampal microglia and neurons in a chronic unpredictable mild stress paradigm in female mice.
Katherine Picard,Kanchan Bisht,S. Poggini,Stefano Garofalo,M.T. Golia,Bernadette Basilico,Fatima Abdallah,Naomi Ciano Albanese,Irmgard Amrein,Nathalie Vernoux,Kaushik Sharma,Chin Wai Hui,Julie C. Savage,Cristina Limatola,Davide Ragozzino,Laura Maggi,Igor Branchi,Marie-Ève Tremblay +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of microglial glucocorticoid receptors (GRs) in the response to chronic psychological stress was investigated in adult female mice with chronic unpredictable mild stress.
