Evaluation of the ECMWF ocean reanalysis system ORAS4

TL;DR: A new operational ocean reanalysis system (ORAS4) has been implemented at ECMWF as mentioned in this paper, which spans the period 1958 to the present, and has been evaluated using different metrics, including comparison with observed ocean currents, RAPID-derived transports, sea-level gauges, and GRACE-derived bottom pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distinctive climate signals in reanalysis of global ocean heat content

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the time evolution of the global ocean heat content for 1958 through 2009 from a new observation-based reanalysis of the ocean, identifying Volcanic eruptions and El Nino events as sharp cooling events punctuating a long-term ocean warming trend, while heating continues during the recent upper ocean warming hiatus.
Journal ArticleDOI

SEAS5: the new ECMWF seasonal forecast system

TL;DR: SEAS5 as discussed by the authors is the ECMWF's fifth generation seasonal forecast system, which became operational in November 2017 and includes upgraded versions of the atmosphere and ocean models at higher resolutions and adds a prognostic sea-ice model.
