Journal ArticleDOI

Low-dose acetyl salicylic acid versus oral anticoagulation after bioprosthetic aortic valve replacement. Final report of the ACTION registry

TL;DR: Compared with ASA, treatment with VKA was associated with higher morbidity within 6 months after bioprosthetic AVR, suggesting that, particularly after concomitant CABG surgery, recipients of biop Frostian aortic valve replacement should receive prophylactic ASA instead of VKA.

ROBUST CHARACTERISTIC POINTS FOR ICG - Definition and Comparative Analysis

TL;DR: A computationally simple algorithm, based on high order derivatives, is proposed that enables the identification of the main characteristic points, B and X, with significantly smaller errors and much higher correlations compared to current state of the art methods and existing alternative characteristic point definitions.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Assessing PEP and LVET from heart sounds: Algorithms and evaluation

TL;DR: Estimation of systolic time intervals, namely the pre-ejection period (PEP) and the left ventricular ejection time (LVET), using heart sound supports the assumption that heart sounds can be applied to detect the onset of the aortic valve movement processes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Challenges in rheumatic valvular disease: Surgical strategies for mitral valve preservation.

TL;DR: It is becoming increasingly clear that, although, the results may not compare to those obtained with degenerative pathology, repair of rheumatic valves, when feasible, is the procedure of choice, especially in these underprivileged populations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diagnostic value of surgical lung biopsy: comparison with clinical and radiological diagnosis.

TL;DR: Despite a high sensitivity and specificity of the clinical and imagiological diagnosis, the positive predictive value was low, particularly in the malignancy group, and surgical lung biopsy should be performed in pulmonary infiltrates of unknown aetiology.
