Journal ArticleDOI
Bioaccumulation and toxicity of gold nanoparticles after repeated administration in mice.
Cristian A. Lasagna-Reeves,Dennisse Gonzalez-Romero,Dennisse Gonzalez-Romero,Marcelo A. Barria,Marcelo A. Barria,Ivonne Olmedo,Ivonne Olmedo,Audra L. Clos,V. M. Sadagopa Ramanujam,Akihiko Urayama,Akihiko Urayama,L. Vergara,Marcelo J. Kogan,Claudio Soto,Claudio Soto +14 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that GNPs are able to cross the blood-brain barrier and accumulate in the neural tissue, and the accumulation of the particles does not produce sub-acute physiological damage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nanoparticle-mediated local and remote manipulation of protein aggregation
Marcelo J. Kogan,Neus G. Bastús,Roger Amigo,Dolors Grillo-Bosch,Eyleen Araya,Antonio Turiel,Amílcar Labarta,Ernest Giralt,Víctor F. Puntes +8 more
TL;DR: Simultaneous tagging and manipulation by AuNP of Abeta at different stages of aggregation allow both, noninvasive exploration and dissolution of molecular aggregates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Copper-polymer nanocomposites: An excellent and cost-effective biocide for use on antibacterial surfaces.
TL;DR: This review presents a comprehensive compilation of previous published work on the subject, mainly related to the antimicrobial activity of copper polymer nanocomposites, and highlights the possible mechanisms of action.
Journal ArticleDOI
Delivery of gold nanoparticles to the brain by conjugation with a peptide that recognizes the transferrin receptor
Roger Prades,Simón Guerrero,Eyleen Araya,Claudia Molina,Edison Salas,Edison Salas,Esther Zurita,Javier Selva,Gustavo Egea,Carmen López-Iglesias,Meritxell Teixidó,Marcelo J. Kogan,Ernest Giralt +12 more
TL;DR: This work introduced the peptide sequence THRPPMWSPVWP into the gold nanoparticle-CLPFFD conjugate, which interacts with the transferrin receptor present in the microvascular endothelial cells of the blood-brain barrier, thus causing an increase in the permeability of the conjugates in brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanistic aspects of CPP-mediated intracellular drug delivery: Relevance of CPP self-assembly
Silvia Pujals,Jimena Fernández-Carneado,Carmen López-Iglesias,Marcelo J. Kogan,Ernest Giralt +4 more
TL;DR: The role of self assembly in the cellular uptake of CPPs is discussed, including Sweet Arrow Peptide CPP, which has been shown to aggregate by CD and TEM, although the internalised species have yet to be identified as either the monomer or an aggregate.
