Nerve Growth Factor Is an Autocrine Survival Factor for Memory B Lymphocytes
Maria Torcia,Luisa Bracci-Laudiero,Maria Lucibello,Lucia Nencioni,Danilo Labardi,Anna Rubartelli,Federico Cozzolino,Luigi Aloe,Enrico Garaci +8 more
TL;DR: In vivo administration of neutralizing anti-NGF antibodies caused strong reduction in the titer of specific IgG in mice immunized with tetanus toxoid, nitrophenol, or arsonate and reduced numbers of surface IgG or IgA B lymphocytes, indicating that NGF is an autocrine survival factor for memory B lymphocyte populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bcl-2 Phosphorylation by p38 MAPK: Identification of target sites and biologic consequences
Giovanna De Chiara,Maria Elena Marcocci,Maria Torcia,Maria Lucibello,Maria Lucibello,Paolo Rosini,Paolo Bonini,Yukiro Higashimoto,Gianluca Damonte,Andrea Armirotti,Sarah Amodei,Anna Teresa Palamara,Tommaso Russo,Enrico Garaci,Federico Cozzolino +14 more
TL;DR: Bcl-2 phosphorylation by activated p38 MAPK is a key event in the early induction of apoptosis under conditions of cellular stress and is obtained by using mass spectrometry techniques and specific anti-phosphopeptide antibodies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional deficit of T regulatory cells in Fulani, an ethnic group with low susceptibility to Plasmodium falciparum malaria
Maria Torcia,Veronica Santarlasci,Lorenzo Cosmi,AnnMaria Clemente,Laura Maggi,Valentina D. Mangano,Federica Verra,Germana Bancone,Issa Nebie,B S Sirima,Francesco Liotta,Francesca Frosali,Roberta Angeli,Carlo Severini,Anna Rosa Sannella,Paolo Bonini,Maria Lucibello,Enrico Maggi,Enrico Garaci,Mario Coluzzi,Federico Cozzolino,Francesco Annunziato,Sergio Romagnani,David Modiano +23 more
TL;DR: Compared with sympatric Mossi, the results suggest that the higher resistance to malaria of the Fulani could derive from a functional deficit of T regulatory cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nerve growth factor inhibits apoptosis in memory B lymphocytes via inactivation of p38 MAPK, prevention of Bcl-2 phosphorylation, and cytochrome c release.
Maria Torcia,Maria Torcia,Giovanna De Chiara,Lucia Nencioni,Serena Ammendola,Danilo Labardi,Maria Lucibello,Maria Lucibello,Paolo Rosini,Lionel N. J.L. Marlier,Paolo Bonini,Persio Dello Sbarba,Anna Teresa Palamara,Anna Teresa Palamara,Nicola Zambrano,Tommaso Russo,Enrico Garaci,Federico Cozzolino,Federico Cozzolino +18 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate that the molecular mechanisms underlying the survival factor function of NGF critically rely upon the continuous inactivation of p38 MAPK, a Bcl-2-modifying enzyme.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interferon-alpha and interleukin 2 synergistically enhance basic fibroblast growth factor synthesis and induce release, promoting endothelial cell growth.
Federico Cozzolino,Maria Torcia,Maria Lucibello,L. Morbidelli,Marina Ziche,J. Platt,S. Fabiani,J Brett,David M. Stern +8 more
TL;DR: A mechanism rendering ECs responsive to IL-2 which may be relevant in immune/inflammatory disorders is suggested: IFN-alpha-mediated induction of functional EC receptors forIL-2, which drives cell proliferation by a mechanism dependent on increased synthesis and release of bFGF.
