Journal ArticleDOI
Prognostic factors and outcomes in metastatic uveal melanoma treated with programmed cell death-1 or combined PD-1/cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 inhibition
Markus V. Heppt,Lucie Heinzerling,Katharina C. Kähler,Andrea Forschner,Michael C. Kirchberger,Carmen Loquai,Markus Meissner,Friedegund Meier,Patrick Terheyden,Beatrice Schell,Rudolf A. Herbst,Daniela Göppner,Felix Kiecker,David Rafei-Shamsabadi,Sebastian Haferkamp,M. Huber,Jochen Utikal,Mirjana Ziemer,Irmgard Bumeder,Christiane Pfeiffer,Susanne G. Schäd,Christoph Schmid-Tannwald,Julia K. Tietze,Thomas Eigentler,Carola Berking +24 more
TL;DR: Blood markers predict survival in metastatic UM treated with immune checkpoint blockade and normal serum levels of LDH and CRP and a high REC may help identify patients with better prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cyanobacteria use micro-optics to sense light direction
Nils Schuergers,Tchern Lenn,Ronald Kampmann,Markus Meissner,Tiago Esteves,Tiago Esteves,Maja Temerinac-Ott,Jan G. Korvink,Alan R. Lowe,Alan R. Lowe,Conrad W. Mullineaux,Conrad W. Mullineaux,Annegret Wilde +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that individual Synechocystis cells do not respond to a spatiotemporal gradient in light intensity, but rather they directly and accurately sense the position of a light source.
Journal ArticleDOI
PPARα Activators Inhibit Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor-2 Expression by Repressing Sp1-Dependent DNA Binding and Transactivation
Markus Meissner,Monika Stein,Carmen Urbich,Kerstin Reisinger,Guntram Suske,Bart Staels,Roland Kaufmann,Jens Gille +7 more
TL;DR: PPAR&agr; agonists are found to inhibit endothelial VEGFR2 expression, whereas predominant PPAR&ggr; ligands remained without discernible effects, suggesting direct interactions between specific transcription factors and PPARs that ultimately result in reduced DNA binding to their respective response elements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dimethyl fumarate - only an anti-psoriatic medication?
TL;DR: This valued and well‐known drug mainly prescribed by dermatologists is now experiencing a renaissance far beyond dermatologic applications, and offers promising results on the treatment of cancer, malaria, chronic inflammatory lung diseases, and Huntington disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combined immune checkpoint blockade for metastatic uveal melanoma: a retrospective, multi-center study
Markus V. Heppt,Markus V. Heppt,Teresa Amaral,Katharina C. Kähler,Lucie Heinzerling,Jessica C. Hassel,Markus Meissner,Nicole Kreuzberg,Carmen Loquai,Lydia Reinhardt,Jochen Utikal,Evelyn Dabrowski,Anja Gesierich,Claudia Pföhler,Patrick Terheyden,Kai-Martin Thoms,Lisa Zimmer,Thomas Eigentler,Michael C. Kirchberger,Henner Stege,Friedegund Meier,Max Schlaak,Carola Berking,Carola Berking +23 more
TL;DR: This study implies that combined checkpoint blockade represents the hitherto most effective treatment option available for metastatic UM available outside of clinical trials.
