Journal ArticleDOI
Mutation of TDP1, encoding a topoisomerase I-dependent DNA damage repair enzyme, in spinocerebellar ataxia with axonal neuropathy.
Hiroshi Takashima,Cornelius F. Boerkoel,Joy John,Gulam Mustafa Saifi,Mustafa A. Salih,Dawna L. Armstrong,Yuxin Mao,Florante A. Quiocho,Benjamin B. Roa,Masanori Nakagawa,David W. Stockton,James R. Lupski +11 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that loss-of-function mutations in TDP1 may cause SCAN1 either by interfering with DNA transcription or by inducing apoptosis in postmitotic neurons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of elevated levels of α-synuclein oligomers in CSF from patients with Parkinson disease
Takahiko Tokuda,Mohamed M. Qureshi,Mustafa T. Ardah,Shiji Varghese,Safa Shehab,Takashi Kasai,Noriko Ishigami,Akira Tamaoka,Masanori Nakagawa,Omar M. A. El-Agnaf +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that levels of α-synuclein oligomers in CSF and the oligomers/total-α- synuclein ratio can be useful biomarkers for diagnosis and early detection of PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Decreased α-synuclein in cerebrospinal fluid of aged individuals and subjects with Parkinson’s disease.
Takahiko Tokuda,Sultan A. Salem,David Allsop,Toshiki Mizuno,Masanori Nakagawa,Mohamed M. Qureshi,Joseph J. Locascio,Joseph J. Locascio,Michael G. Schlossmacher,Michael G. Schlossmacher,Omar M. A. El-Agnaf +10 more
TL;DR: It was found that PD patients had significantly lower alpha-syn levels in their CSF than the control groups even after adjusting for gender and age, andLogistic regression analysis showed that reduction in CSF alpha- syn served as a significant predictor of PD beyond age and gender alone.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-molecular-weight β-amyloid oligomers are elevated in cerebrospinal fluid of Alzheimer patients
Hiroaki Fukumoto,Takahiko Tokuda,Takashi Kasai,Noriko Ishigami,Hiroya Hidaka,Masaki Kondo,David Allsop,Masanori Nakagawa +7 more
TL;DR: The ELISAcould be useful as a diagnostic marker for AD, and also as a potential surrogate marker for disease severity, and the idea that soluble HMW Aβ oligomers play a critical role in the pathogenesis and progression of AD is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI
HTLV-I-associated myelopathy: analysis of 213 patients based on clinical features and laboratory findings
Masanori Nakagawa,Shuji Izumo,Shinji Ijichi,Hiroaki Kubota,Kimiyoshi Arimura,Masaharu Kawabata,Mitsuhiro Osame +6 more
TL;DR: It is speculated that the clinical course of HTLV-I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis mainly shows a slow progression which consists of an initial progressive phase (probably an inflammatory phase) and a latter chronic phase, although some patients showed acute/subacute onset and rapid progression.
