Journal ArticleDOI
Simplified clinical algorithm for identifying patients eligible for same-day HIV treatment initiation (SLATE): Results from an individually randomized trial in South Africa and Kenya.
Sydney Rosen,Sydney Rosen,Mhairi Maskew,Bruce A. Larson,Alana T. Brennan,Alana T. Brennan,Isaac Tsikhutsu,Matthew P. Fox,Matthew P. Fox,Lungisile Vezi,Margaret Bii,Willem D F Venter +11 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that a simple structured algorithm for same-day treatment initiation procedures is feasible and can increase and accelerate ART uptake but that early retention on treatment remains problematic.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predicting the Need for Third-Line Antiretroviral Therapy by Identifying Patients at High Risk for Failing Second-Line Antiretroviral Therapy in South Africa.
Dorina Onoya,Cornelius Nattey,Eric Budgell,Liudmyla van den Berg,Mhairi Maskew,Denise Evans,Kamban Hirasen,Lawrence Long,Matthew P. Fox,Matthew P. Fox +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest complex socioeconomic factors contributing to risk of virologic failure, possibly by impacting ART adherence, among patients on second‐line therapy in South Africa are suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using Probabilistic Corrections to Account for Abstractor Agreement in Medical Record Reviews
Timothy L. Lash,Matthew P. Fox,Soe Soe Thwin,Soe Soe Thwin,Ann M. Geiger,Ann M. Geiger,Diana S. M. Buist,Feifei Wei,Terry S. Field,Terry S. Field,Marianne Ulcickas Yood,Marianne Ulcickas Yood,Floyd J. Frost,Virginia P. Quinn,Marianne N. Prout,Rebecca A. Silliman,Rebecca A. Silliman +16 more
TL;DR: The hazard ratios and simulation intervals that took account of the reliability data showed that the simulation interval grew wider as the sources of uncertainty taken into account grew more complete, but the associations expected a priori remained readily apparent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent Yeast Infections and Vulvodynia: Can We Believe Associations Based on Self-Reported Data?
Bernard L. Harlow,Bernard L. Harlow,Rachel E. Caron,Samantha E. Parker,Devavani Chatterjea,Matthew P. Fox,Ruby H.N. Nguyen +6 more
TL;DR: There appears to be a positive relationship between yeast infections preceding and following the diagnosis of vulvodynia, but this relationship varies from strong to nonexistent depending on the relative accuracy of the recalled diagnosis of yeast infections among cases and controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tuberculosis and the risk of opportunistic infections and cancers in HIV‐infected patients starting ART in Southern Africa
Lukas Fenner,Stewart E Reid,Stewart E Reid,Matthew P. Fox,Matthew P. Fox,Daniela Garone,Maureen Wellington,Hans Prozesky,Marcel Zwahlen,Michael Schomaker,Gilles Wandeler,Nzali Kancheya,Andrew Boulle,Robin Wood,German Henostroza,German Henostroza,Matthias Egger,Matthias Egger +17 more
TL;DR: To investigate the incidence of selected opportunistic infections (OIs) and cancers and the role of a history of tuberculosis (TB) as a risk factor for developing these conditions in HIV‐infected patients starting antiretroviral treatment (ART) in Southern Africa, a cohort study is conducted.
