Global strategies to reduce the price of antiretroviral medicines: evidence from transactional databases.
Brenda Waning,Warren A. Kaplan,Alexis C King,Danielle A. Lawrence,Hubert G. M. Leufkens,Matthew P. Fox +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of global strategies, such as pooled procurement arrangements, third-party price negotiation and differential pricing, on reducing the price of antiretrovirals (ARVs), which currently hinders universal access to HIV/AIDS treatment was estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pascal Geldsetzer,H. Manisha Yapa,Maria Vaikath,Osondu Ogbuoji,Matthew P. Fox,Shaffiq Essajee,Eyerusalem K. Negussie,Till Bärnighausen,Till Bärnighausen +8 more
TL;DR: This systematic review aims to determine which interventions improve retention within prevention of mother‐to‐child HIV transmission (PMTCT) programmes after birth, transitioning from PMTCT to general ART programmes in the postpartum period, and retention of post partum women in general ART programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relationship between Renal Dysfunction, Nephrotoxicity and Death among HIV Adults on Tenofovir
Alana T. Brennan,Denise Evans,Mhairi Maskew,Saraladevi Naicker,Prudence Ive,Ian Sanne,Thapelo Maotoe,Matthew P. Fox +7 more
TL;DR: Much of the incident renal dysfunction in ten ofovir patients is likely related to preexisting renal disorder, which may be exacerbated by tenofovir, and screening for renal dysfunction prior to initiation and dose adjustment is necessary to help improve ART outcomes.
Journal Article
Global Strategies to Reduce the Price of Antiretroviral Medicines: Evidence from Transactional databases/Strategies Mondiales Pour Reduire le Prix Des Medicaments Antiretroviraux : Elements Provenant Des Bases De Donnees De transaction/Estrategias Mundiales De Reduccion del Precio De Los Antirretrovirales: Evidencia Extraida De Bases De Datos Transaccionales
Brenda Waning,Warren A. Kaplan,Alexis C King,Danielle A. Lawrence,Hubert G. M. Leufkens,Matthew P. Fox +5 more
TL;DR: Large purchase volumes did not necessarily result in lower ARV prices, and although current plans for pooled procurement will further increase purchase volumes, savings are uncertain and should be balanced against programmatic costs.
Journal ArticleDOI
High rates of survival, immune reconstitution, and virologic suppression on second-line antiretroviral therapy in South Africa.
TL;DR: Providing second-line treatment to patients who fail their first-line antiretroviral therapy should be considered a high priority in resource-poor settings.
