Allosteric mechanism of haemoglobin: rupture of salt-bridges raises the oxygen affinity of the T-structure.

TL;DR: M measuring the oxygen equilibria of T-state crystals of an abnormal human haemoglobin in which the C-terminal histidine residues of the beta-chains are replaced by leucine residues shows that rupture of salt-bridges raises the oxygen affinity of the T-structure even when this is clamped firmly by the crystal lattice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electron Spin Resonance in Myoglobin and Hæmoglobin: Orientation of the Four Hæm Groups in Hæmoglobin

TL;DR: In this paper, the electron spin resonance in myoglobin and haemoglobin was investigated. And the orientation of the four Haem groups in Haemoglobin and Myoglobin was analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

LR16, a compound with potent effects on the oxygen affinity of hemoglobin, on blood cholesterol, and on low density lipoprotein.

TL;DR: Oral administration of LR16 (at small doses that produced no ill effects) to rats that were fed a diet rich in cholesterol caused substantial reductions of total serum cholesterol and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol, while high density cholesterol remained unchanged.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Structure of Haemoglobin. III. Direct Determination of the Molecular Transform

TL;DR: In this paper, the modulus of the molecular Fourier transform is measured for all values of h and l up to λ/d = 0·24, comprising nine layer lines in all.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure and function of haemoglobin philly (Tyr C1 (35) β→Phe)

TL;DR: In this paper, a purified haemoglobin Philly by isoelectric focusing on polyacrylamide gel, and studied its oxygen equilibrium, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, mechanical stability, and pH-dependent u.v. difference spectrum.
