Journal ArticleDOI
Red wine consumption inhibits LDL oxidation and aggregation in humans and in atherosclerotic mice
Journal ArticleDOI
Pomegranate for Your Cardiovascular Health
Michael Aviram,Mira Rosenblat +1 more
TL;DR: Pomegranate antioxidants are unique in their ability to increase the activity of the HDL-associated paraoxonase 1 (PON1), which breaks down harmful oxidized lipids in lipoproteins, in macrophages, and in atherosclerotic plaques, and thereby beneficially decrease blood pressure.
Journal Article
Effect of dietary supplementation of beta-carotene on human monocyte-macrophage-mediated oxidation of low density lipoprotein.
TL;DR: The results suggest that beta-carotene content of LDL, but not that of the macrophages, is responsible for the inhibition of oxidation of LDL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phospholipase D-modified low density lipoprotein is taken up by macrophages at increased rate. A possible role for phosphatidic acid.
Michael Aviram,Irit Maor +1 more
TL;DR: PLase D modification of LDL may take place under certain pathological conditions and PLase D-LDL interaction with arterial wall macrophages can potentially lead to foam cell formation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Platelet-modified low-density lipoproteins: studies in normal subjects and in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated the production of PL-LDL that was not affected by platelet activation, which required the presence of homologous platelets and lipoprotein and was similar to that formed with nonactivated normal human platelets.
