Journal ArticleDOI

A phase II trial of thymidine and carboplatin for recurrent malignant glioma: a North American Brain Tumor Consortium Study.

TL;DR: These results in GBM were comparable to other phase II GBM trials and thus do not represent a therapeutic advance in the treatment of GBM, but results are consistent with continued investigation of thymidine in combination with chemotherapeutic agents for high-grade glioma and other malignant diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Historical controls for phase II surgically based trials requiring gross total resection of glioblastoma multiforme

TL;DR: Considering only patients with GTR, age at diagnosis continued to be a statistically significant prognostic factor and patients treated during surgically based phase II studies should be matched with a historical control group restricted to patients with similar pretreatment variables, including GTR.
Journal ArticleDOI

High failure rate in spinal ependymomas with long-term follow-up

TL;DR: The overall high rate of recurrence leads us to recommend radiation to doses of 45 to 54 Gy for all patients who do not have gross total resections, and long, close follow-up, and to recommend maximal excision while avoiding surgical morbidity.
