Since its discovery, the asymmetric Fano resonance has been a characteristic feature of interacting quantum systems. The shape of this resonance is distinctively different from that of conventional symmetric resonance curves. Recently, the Fano resonance has been found in plasmonic nanoparticles, photonic crystals, and electromagnetic metamaterials. The steep dispersion of the Fano resonance profile promises applications in sensors, lasing, switching, and nonlinear and slow-light devices.

The separation of IC packages from a BGA board is realized by means of laser multi-scan method. The laser used in the study is a double frequency Nd-YAG laser with wavelength of 532 nm. The big problem in the laser processing approach mainly arises from the multi-layer materials of BGA board with copper, polyethylene and epoxy glass fiber, because of their different absorption coefficient to the laser beam and their different absorption coefficient to the laser beam and their different heat conductivity. In the experiment approach, the effects of laser parameters, such as wavelength, on the dicing efficiency has been investigated for choosing laser. The influence of sample side for laser incidence on cut profile and, the influence of the focused extent of laser beam on singulation speed are discussed. The experimental results show that laser singulation of IC packages is efficient and reliable.

Surface Hybrid Structuring by Laser Removal and Subtractive Processing

The invention relates to a tissue scaffold device and a method for fabricating the tissue scaffold device. The tissue scaffold device comprises a porous core including a plurality of fibres and an outer portion at least substantially surrounding the porous core, wherein the outer portion includes a plurality of pores elongated along a longitudinal axis of the tissue scaffold device. The tissue scaffold device is preferably a tendon scaffold, and the fibres preferably comprise collagen and poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL), with or without incorporation of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles.

In laser cleaning of micro-particles from solid surface, the adhesion force between the particles and the substrate surface and the thermal expansion of both particles and substrate play important roles in determining the threshold laser fluence. Taking Van der Waals force and cleaning force due to fast thermal expansion of particles and substrate surface induced by pulsed laser irradiation into account, a cleaning model was established for removal of tiny particles from substrate surfaces. The cleaning condition and cleaning threshold can be obtained from this model. This model can qualitatively and quantitatively predict how the laser cleaning process depending on laser incident direction, laser wavelength, particle size, particle material and substrate material. Theoretical predictions have been verified by the experimental results. Laser cleaning of micro-particle has wide applications in microelectronics and magnetic recording industries.

Theoretical modeling for laser cleaning of micro-particles from solid surface

In this paper, we will describe a new method to fabricate optical diffractive gratings on glass surface with direct CW CO2 laser irradiation. A laser beam with linear polarization was focused and scanned on a glass substrate. The interaction of the beam with the material irradiated results in a periodic ridge structure formation on the substrate under a well-controlled laser irradiation dose. Using multi-path scanning method, with a suitable overlap, diffractive grating with large area can be achieved. In this experiment, laser irradiation dose was 50 J/cm2, laser scanning speed was 0.2 mm/s, the diameter of focused beam was 30 ?m, and the grating period was about 8 ?m.
