Chemomechanical behaviors of layered cathode materials in alkali metal ion batteries

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the chemomechanical breakdown of layered cathode materials (LCMs) by introducing their categories and negative effects on the battery performance and summarize their formation mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Charge distribution guided by grain crystallographic orientations in polycrystalline battery materials.

TL;DR: The quantitative characterization provides mechanistic insight into the way the grain orientation can be engineered to mitigate the charge heterogeneity, and improves an improved understanding of the charge distribution and chemomechanical properties of polycrystalline battery materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Accelerated Evolution of Surface Chemistry Determined by Temperature and Cycling History in Nickel-Rich Layered Cathode Materials.

TL;DR: Spectroscopic analysis of surface changes within a strong performing LiNi0.8Mn0.1O2 (NMC811) cathode material found that surface chemical and structural transformations occurred quicker and deeper than expected at higher temperatures, suggesting that a better performing nickel-rich NMC is possible.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxygen Redox Chemistry in Rechargeable Li-Ion and Na-Ion Batteries

TL;DR: A review of the recent understanding of oxygen redox is presented in this paper, where the mechanistic understandings, and challenges and their mitigation with oxygen redoxide are summarized by integrating various schools of thought.
