Pathological work-up of sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer. Review of current data to be considered for the formulation of guidelines
Gábor Cserni,Isabel Amendoeira,N Apostolikas,Jean-Pierre Bellocq,Simonetta Bianchi,Giovanni Bussolati,Werner Boecker,Bettina Borisch,C E Connolly,Thomas Decker,Peter A. Dervan,Maria Drijkoningen,Ian O. Ellis,C. W. Elston,Vincenzo Eusebi,D Faverly,Päivi Heikkilä,Roland Holland,H. Kerner,Janina Kulka,Jocelyne Jacquemier,Manuela Lacerda,J. Martinez-Penuela,C. de Miguel,Johannes L. Peterse,Fritz Rank,Peter Regitnig,Angelika Reiner,Anna Sapino,Brigitte Sigal-Zafrani,A.M. Tanous,S. Thorstenson,E. Zozaya,Clive A. Wells +33 more
TL;DR: An evaluation of the accuracy of SN biopsy as a staging procedure, the yields of different sectioning methods and the immunohistochemical detection of metastatic cells are reviewed and it is suggested that approximately 18% of the cases may be associated with further nodal (non-SN) metastases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discrepancies in current practice of pathological evaluation of sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer. Results of a questionnaire based survey by the European Working Group for Breast Screening Pathology.
Gábor Cserni,Isabel Amendoeira,N Apostolikas,Jean-Pierre Bellocq,Simonetta Bianchi,Werner Boecker,Bettina Borisch,C.E. Connolly,Thomas Decker,Peter A. Dervan,Maria Drijkoningen,Ian O. Ellis,C. W. Peterse,Fritz Rank,Peter Regitnig,A. Reiner,Anna Sapino,Brigitte Sigal-Zafrani,A.M. Tanous,S. Thorstenson,E. Zozaya,G Fejes,Clive A. Wells +33 more
TL;DR: Evaluated aspects of the current practice of sentinel lymph node (SLN) pathology in breast cancer via a questionnaire based survey to recognise major issues that the European guidelines for mammography screening should address in the next revision.
Journal ArticleDOI
Consistency achieved by 23 European pathologists from 12 countries in diagnosing breast disease and reporting prognostic features of carcinomas. European Commission Working Group on Breast Screening Pathology.
John P. Sloane,Isabel Amendoeira,N Apostolikas,Jean-Pierre Bellocq,Simonetta Bianchi,Werner Boecker,Giovanni Bussolati,D Coleman,C E Connolly,Vincenzo Eusebi,C. de Miguel,Peter A. Dervan,R. Drijkoningen,C. W. Elston,D Faverly,A Gad,Jocelyne Jacquemier,Manuela Lacerda,J. Martinez-Penuela,C Munt,Johannes L. Peterse,Fritz Rank,M Sylvan,V Tsakraklides,Brigitte Zafrani +24 more
TL;DR: An analysis of the consistency with which pathologists from 12 different European countries diagnose and classify breast disease was undertaken, suggesting that further improvements are unlikely without changes in guidelines or methodology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Consistency achieved by 23 european pathologists in categorizing ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast using five classifications
John P. Sloane,Isabel Amendoeira,N Apostolikas,Jean-Pierre Bellocq,Simonetta Bianchi,Werner Boecker,Giovanni Bussolati,D Coleman,C E Connolly,P Dervan,Vincenzo Eusebi,C. de Miguel,M Drijkoningen,C. W. Elston,D Faverley,A Gad,Jocelyne Jacquemier,Manuela Lacerda,J. Martinez-Penuela,C Munt,Johannes L. Peterse,Fritz Rank,M Sylvan,V Tsakraklides,Brigitte Zafrani +24 more
TL;DR: The most robust histological features were thus high- and low-grade nuclei and necrosis as long as the latter did not involve the recognition of a comedo growth pattern.
Journal ArticleDOI
Causes of inconsistency in diagnosing and classifying intraductal proliferations of the breast
C. W. Elston,John P. Sloane,Isabel Amendoeira,N Apostolikas,Jean-Pierre Bellocq,Simonetta Bianchi,Werner Boecker,Giovanni Bussolati,D Coleman,C E Connolly,Peter A. Dervan,Maria Drijkoningen,Vincenzo Eusebi,D Faverly,Robert Holland,Jocelyne Jacquemier,Manuela Lacerda,J. Martinez-Penuela,C. de Miguel,Sue Moss,C Munt,Johannes L. Peterse,Fritz Rank,Angelika Reiner,M Sylvan,Clive A. Wells,Brigitte Zafrani +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the contribution of differences in the interpretation of specified histological features and field selection where morphology is heterogeneous to inconsistent interpretation of intraductal proliferations and concluded that most of the inconsistency is due to differences in morphological interpretation.
