Journal ArticleDOI
PPAR-alpha and PPAR-gamma activators induce cholesterol removal from human macrophage foam cells through stimulation of the ABCA1 pathway.
Giulia Chinetti,Sophie Lestavel,Bocher,Alan T. Remaley,Bernadette Neve,Inés Pineda Torra,Elisabeth Teissier,A Minnich,Michael C. Jaye,Nicolas Duverger,H B Brewer,Jean-Charles Fruchart,Clavey,Bart Staels +13 more
TL;DR: A regulatory role is identified for PPAR-α andPPAR-γ in the first steps of the reverse-cholesterol-transport pathway through the activation of ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux in human macrophages.

PPAR alpha and PPAR gamma activators induce cholesterol removal from human macrophage foam cells through stimulation of the ABC-1 pathway.
Giulia Chinetti,Sophie Lestavel,Alan T. Remaley,Bernadette Neve,Inés Pineda Torra,A Minnich,Michael Jaye,Nicolas Duverger,H B Brewer,J.C. Fruchart,Clavey,Bart Staels +11 more
TL;DR: A regulatory role is identified for PPAR-alpha andPPAR-gamma in the first steps of the reverse-cholesterol-transport pathway through the activation of ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux in human macrophages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Opposite regulation of human versus mouse apolipoprotein A-I by fibrates in human apolipoprotein A-I transgenic mice.
Laurence Berthou,Nicolas Duverger,Florence Emmanuel,S Langouët,Johan Auwerx,A Guillouzo,J.C. Fruchart,Eric J. Rubin,Patrice Denefle,Bart Staels,Didier Branellec +10 more
TL;DR: Treatment of human primary hepatocytes with fenofibric acid and gemfibrozil provoked an 83 and 50% increase in apo A-I secretion and mRNA levels, respectively, supporting that a direct action of fibrates on liver human apo B-I production leads to the observed increase in plasma apo C4 and HDL-cholesterol.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the ABCA transporter subfamily: identification of prokaryotic and eukaryotic members, phylogeny and topology.
Frank Peelman,Christine Labeur,Berlinda Vanloo,Stein Roosbeek,Catherine Devaud,Nicolas Duverger,Patrice Denefle,Marie Rosier,Joël Vandekerckhove,Maryvonne Rosseneu +9 more
TL;DR: An alignment of the mammalian ABCA transporters enabled the identification of sequence segments, specific to the ABCA subfamily, which were used as queries to search for eukaryotic and prokaryotic homologues.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ABCA1 transporter functions on the basolateral surface of hepatocytes
Edward B. Neufeld,Steven J. Demosky,John A. Stonik,Christian A. Combs,Alan T. Remaley,Nicolas Duverger,Silvia Santamarina-Fojo,H. Bryan Brewer +7 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest an important role for hepatocyte basolateral membrane ABCA1 in the regulation of the levels of intracellular hepatic cholesterol, as well as plasma HDL.
