A DUAL mission for nuclear astrophysics
Peter von Ballmoos,Jose Alvarez,Nicolas M. Barrière,S. E. Boggs,Andrei M. Bykov,Juan Manuel Del Cura Velayos,Filippo Frontera,Lorraine Hanlon,Margarita Hernanz,Emmanuel Hinglais,Jordi Isern,Pierre Jean,Jürgen Knödlseder,Lucien Kuiper,Mark D. Leising,Benoît Pirard,Jean-Pierre Prost,Rui M. Curado da Silva,Tadayuki Takahashi,John A. Tomsick,Roland Walter,Andreas Zoglauer +21 more
TL;DR: The DUAL payload as discussed by the authors consists of an All-Sky Compton Imager (ASCI) and two optical modules, the Laue-Lens Optic (LLO) and the Coded-Mask Optic(CMO).
Journal ArticleDOI
Sagittarius A* High Energy X-ray Flare Properties During NuSTAR Monitoring of the Galactic Center from 2012 to 2015
Shuo Zhang,Shuo Zhang,Frederick K. Baganoff,Gabriele Ponti,Joseph Neilsen,John A. Tomsick,Jason Dexter,Maïca Clavel,Sera Markoff,Charles J. Hailey,Kaya Mori,Nicolas M. Barrière,Michael A. Nowak,Steven E. Boggs,Finn E. Christensen,William W. Craig,William W. Craig,Brian W. Grefenstette,Fiona A. Harrison,Kristin K. Madsen,Daniel Stern,William W. Zhang +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported on the data obtained between 2012 July and 2015 April, including 27 observations on Sgr A*, with a total exposure of ≃1 Ms. They found a total of 10 X-ray flares detected in the NuSTAR observation window, with luminosities in the range of 3-79 keV ~(0.2-4.8) with typical uncertainties of ±0.5 (90% confidence level).
Proceedings ArticleDOI
X-ray testing of silicon pore optics
Giuseppe Vacanti,Nicolas M. Barrière,Maximilien J. Collon,Enrico Hauser,Ljubiša Babić,Alex Bayerle,David Girou,Ramses Günther,Laurens Keek,Boris Landgraf,Ben Okma,Sjoerd Verhoeckx,Mark Vervest,Luc Voruz,Marcos Bavdaz,Eric Wille,Michael Krumrey,Peter Müller,Evelyn Handick +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the X-ray testing and characterization cycle that the optics are subjected to at the PTB's x-ray Pencil/Paraller Beam Facility (XPBF) 1 and 2 beamlines at the synchrotron radiation facility BESSY II.
Journal ArticleDOI
NuSTAR observation of a Type I X-ray burst from GRS 1741.9-2853
Nicolas M. Barrière,Roman Krivonos,John A. Tomsick,Matteo Bachetti,Steven E. Boggs,Deepto Chakrabarty,Finn E. Christensen,William W. Craig,William W. Craig,Charles J. Hailey,Fiona A. Harrison,Jaesub Hong,Kaya Mori,Daniel Stern,William W. Zhang +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report on two NuSTAR observations of GRS 1741.9-2853, a faint neutron star low mass X-ray binary burster located 10' away from the Galactic center.
Journal ArticleDOI
Developing a method for soft gamma-ray Laue lens assembly and calibration
Nicolas M. Barrière,John A. Tomsick,Steven E. Boggs,A. Lowell,Colin Wade,Max Baugh,Peter von Ballmoos,Nikolay V. Abrosimov,Lorraine Hanlon +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a breadboard lens made of 15 crystals was used for the study of Type Ia supernovae (30m focal length) and the results were very encouraging, with a crystal orientation distribution lower than 10
