Journal ArticleDOI
Integration of chemosensory pathways in the Drosophila second-order olfactory centers.
TL;DR: The structural organization of second-order and third-order neurons suggests that MB is capable of integrating a wide range of odorant information across glomeruli, whereas relatively little integration between different subsets of the olfactory signal repertoire is likely to occur in the LH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Developmental origin of wiring specificity in the olfactory system of Drosophila
Gregory S.X.E. Jefferis,Raj M. Vyas,Daniela Berdnik,Ariane Ramaekers,Reinhard F. Stocker,Nobuaki Tanaka,Nobuaki Tanaka,Kei Ito,Liqun Luo +8 more
TL;DR: It is found that, before ORN axon arrival, PN dendrites have already created a prototypic map that resembles the adult glomerular map, by virtue of their selective dendritic localization.
Journal ArticleDOI
The land-atmosphere water flux in the tropics
Joshua B. Fisher,Yadvinder Malhi,Damien Bonal,Humberto Ribeiro da Rocha,Alessandro Araújo,Minoru Gamo,Michael L. Goulden,Takashi Hirano,Alfredo Huete,Hiroaki Kondo,Tomo'omi Kumagai,Henry W. Loescher,Scott D. Miller,Antonio Donato Nobre,Yann Nouvellon,Steven F. Oberbauer,Samreong Panuthai,Olivier Roupsard,Scott R. Saleska,Katsunori Tanaka,Nobuaki Tanaka,Kevin P. Tu,Celso von Randow +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the control on evapotranspiration in tropical vegetation at 21 pan-tropical eddy covariance sites, conducted a comprehensive and systematic evaluation of 13 evap-ranspiration models at these sites, and assessed the ability to scale up model estimates of evapOTranspiration for the test region of Amazonia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Developmentally programmed remodeling of the Drosophila olfactory circuit.
TL;DR: Electron microscopy analysis reveals that embryonic-born PNs synapse with MB γ neurons in the larval calyx and that these synaptic profiles are engulfed by glia during early metamorphosis, and PN pruning requires cell-autonomous reception of the nuclear hormone ecdysone.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of evapotranspiration estimates from tropical forests in Thailand and adjacent regions
Nobuaki Tanaka,Tomonori Kume,Natsuko Yoshifuji,Katsunori Tanaka,Hideki Takizawa,Katsushige Shiraki,Chatchai Tantasirin,Nipon Tangtham,Masakazu Suzuki +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of seasonal patterns of evapotranspiration (ET) between forest types shows increased ET corresponding with the atmospheric evaporative demand in two evergreen forest ecosystems, but not in both evergreen and two deciduous forest ecosystems.
