An improved assembly and annotation of the allohexaploid wheat genome identifies complete families of agronomic genes and provides genomic evidence for chromosomal translocations
Bernardo J. Clavijo,Luca Venturini,Christian Schudoma,Gonzalo Garcia Accinelli,Gemy Kaithakottil,Jonathan M. Wright,Philippa Borrill,George Kettleborough,Darren Heavens,Helen Chapman,James Lipscombe,Tom Barker,Fu Hao Lu,Neil McKenzie,Dina Raats,Ricardo H. Ramirez-Gonzalez,Ricardo H. Krasileva,David Swarbreck,David Swarbreck,Michael W. Bevan,Matthew D. Clark,Matthew D. Clark +45 more
TL;DR: A new wheat whole-genome shotgun sequence assembly is generated using a combination of optimized data types and an assembly algorithm designed to deal with large and complex genomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Membrane-Bound NAC Transcription Factor, ANAC017, Mediates Mitochondrial Retrograde Signaling in Arabidopsis
Sophia Ng,Aneta Ivanova,Owen Duncan,Simon R. Law,Olivier Van Aken,Inge De Clercq,Yan Wang,Chris Carrie,Lin Xu,Beata Kmiec,Hayden Walker,Frank Van Breusegem,James Whelan,James Whelan,Estelle Giraud +14 more
TL;DR: This work identifies a biological role for ANAC017 as an integral cellular component in mitochondrial retrograde signaling and a high-level transcriptional regulator that is necessary for H2O2-mediated primary stress responses in plants.
Journal ArticleDOI
TCP Transcription Factors Link the Regulation of Genes Encoding Mitochondrial Proteins with the Circadian Clock in Arabidopsis thaliana
Estelle Giraud,Sophia Ng,Chris Carrie,Owen Duncan,Jasmine Low,Chun Pong Lee,Olivier Van Aken,A. Harvey Millar,Monika W. Murcha,James Whelan +9 more
TL;DR: Site II elements in the promoter regions of genes encoding mitochondrial, plastid, and peroxisomal proteins provide a direct mechanism for the coordination of expression for genes involved in a variety of organellar functions, including energy metabolism, with the time-of-day specific needs of the organism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional Definition of Outer Membrane Proteins Involved in Preprotein Import into Mitochondria
Ryan Lister,Chris Carrie,Owen Duncan,Lois H.M. Ho,Katharine A. Howell,Monika W. Murcha,James Whelan +6 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that all three components directly interact with precursor proteins to participate in early stages of mitochondrial protein import.
Journal ArticleDOI
Approaches to defining dual-targeted proteins in Arabidopsis
Chris Carrie,Kristina Kühn,Monika W. Murcha,Owen Duncan,Ian Small,Nicholas O'Toole,James Whelan +6 more
TL;DR: A variety of approaches were used to predict dual-targeted proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana and two methods had a high success rate: combining the AraPerox database with a variety of subcellular prediction programs to identify mitochondrial- and peroxisomal- targeted proteins, and using a varieties of prediction programs on a biochemical pathway or process known to contain at least one dual- targeting protein.
