Transcatheter aortic-valve replacement with a self-expanding valve in low-risk patients
Jeffrey J. Popma,G. Michael Deeb,Steven J. Yakubov,Mubashir Mumtaz,Hemal Gada,Daniel O'Hair,Tanvir Bajwa,John Heiser,William Merhi,Neal S. Kleiman,Judah Askew,Paul Sorajja,Joshua Rovin,Stanley Chetcuti,David H. Adams,P.S. Teirstein,George L. Zorn,John K. Forrest,Didier Tchetche,Jon R. Resar,Antony Walton,Nicolo Piazza,Basel Ramlawi,Newell Robinson,George Petrossian,Thomas G. Gleason,Jae K. Oh,Michael J. Boulware,Hongyan Qiao,Andrew S. Mugglin,Michael J. Reardon +30 more
TL;DR: In patients with severe aortic stenosis who were at low surgical risk, TAVR with a self‐expanding supraannular bioprosthesis was noninferior to surgery with respect to the composite end point of death or disabling stroke at 24 months.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coronary Thrombi Increase PTCA Risk Angioscopy as a Clinical Tool
Christopher J. White,Stephen R. Ramee,Tyrone J. Collins,Alvaro Escobar,Arun K. Karsan,Dinesh Shaw,Suresh P. Jain,Theodore A. Bass,Richard R. Heuser,P.S. Teirstein,Raoul Bonan,Paul D. Walter,Richard W. Smalling +12 more
TL;DR: The presence of intracoronary thrombus associated with coronary stenoses is significantly underestimated by angiography and is associated with an increased incidence of adverse outcomes after coronary angioplasty.
Journal Article
Acute platelet inhibition with abciximab does not reduce in-stent restenosis (ERASER study)
Stephen G. Ellis,Mark B. Effron,HK Gold,Martin B. Leon,J.J. Popma,Pwjc Serruys,Antonio Colombo,N Cohen,N Juran,W Werner,Richard R. Heuser,S Spooner,Charanjit S. Rihal,R Fox,J Brennan,Donald R. Ricci,P.S. Teirstein,Shela Norman,Norman R. Morris,James P. Zidar,M Rund +20 more
TL;DR: Potent platelet inhibition with abciximab, as administered in this study, does not reduce in-stent restenosis, and the interrelationship between stents, platelets, and neointimal proliferation requires further study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Activation of platelets in blood perfusing angioplasty-damaged coronary arteries. Flow cytometric detection.
Riidiger E. Scharf,Aaron Tomer,Ulla M. Marzec,P.S. Teirstein,Zaverio M. Ruggeri,Laurence A. Harker +5 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that circulating platelets become activated while flowing through PTCA-damaged stenotic coronary arteries and that this process of platelet activation is readily demonstrated by measuring the expression of activation-specific membrane GP epitopes by flow cytometric analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Initial report of the National Registry of Elective Cardiopulmonary Bypass Supported Coronary Angioplasty.
Robert A. Vogel,Fayaz Shawl,Carl L. Tommaso,William H. O'Neill,Paul Overlie,James O'Toole,Michel Vandormael,Eric J. Topol,K.Kam Tabari,John H. K. Vogel,Sidney Smith,Robert J. Freedman,Christopher J. White,Barry Jeorge,P.S. Teirstein +14 more
TL;DR: A National Registry of 14 centers performing elective supported angioplasty was formed to collate the initial experience with high risk patients and a cardiopulmonary bypass system capable of providing up to 6 liters/min output was employed prophylactically.
