The Early Effect of the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass on Hormones Involved in Body Weight Regulation and Glucose Metabolism
Francesco Rubino,Michel Gagner,Paolo Gentileschi,Subhash Kini,S. Fukuyama,John J. Feng,Ed J. Diamond +6 more
TL;DR: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass determines considerable hormonal changes before significant BMI changes take place, and results support the hypothesis of an endocrine effect as the possible mechanism of action of RYGB.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular phenomics and metagenomics of hepatic steatosis in non-diabetic obese women.
Lesley Hoyles,José Manuel Fernández-Real,Massimo Federici,Matteo Serino,Matteo Serino,James Abbott,Julie Charpentier,Julie Charpentier,Christophe Heymes,Christophe Heymes,Jèssica Latorre Luque,Elodie Anthony,Richard H. Nicholson,Catherine Postic,Rémy Burcelin,Rémy Burcelin,Marc-Emmanuel Dumas +42 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that fecal microbiota transplants and chronic treatment with phenylacetic acid, a microbial product of aromatic amino acids metabolism, successfully trigger steatosis and branched-chain amino acid metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evidence-based appraisal of antireflux fundoplication
Marco Catarci,Paolo Gentileschi,Claudio Papi,Alessandro Carrara,Renato Marrese,Achille L. Gaspari,Giovanni Battista Grassi +6 more
TL;DR: Laparoscopic antireflux surgery is at least as safe and as effective as its open counterpart, with reduced morbidity, shortened postoperative stay, and sick leave, according to a systematic review of randomized controlled trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Major and minor injuries during the creation of pneumoperitoneum. A multicenter study on 12,919 cases.
TL;DR: There is no foolproof technique for the creation of pneumoperitoneum, and this inquiry confirms the need of a constant search for prevention and early treatment of complications encountered during this obligatory phase of any laparoscopic approach.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels are inversely associated with systemic inflammation in severe obese subjects
Alfonso Bellia,Caterina Garcovich,Monica D’Adamo,Mauro Lombardo,Manfredi Tesauro,Giulia Donadel,Paolo Gentileschi,Davide Lauro,Massimo Federici,Renato Lauro,Paolo Sbraccia +10 more
TL;DR: In extremely obese subjects, 25(OH)D serum concentrations are inversely associated with several biomarkers of systemic inflammation, regardless of the total quantity of fat mass, as tested in a cross-sectional study among obese patients undergoing a clinical evaluation before bariatric surgery.
