Journal ArticleDOI
Mobile phone use and risk of acoustic neuroma: results of the Interphone case-control study in five North European countries.
Minouk J. Schoemaker,Anthony J. Swerdlow,Anders Ahlbom,Anssi Auvinen,Anssi Auvinen,K. G. Blaasaas,Elisabeth Cardis,H. Collatz Christensen,Maria Feychting,S. J. Hepworth,Christoffer Johansen,Lars Klaeboe,Stefan Lönn,Patricia A. McKinney,Kenneth Muir,Jani Raitanen,Salminen T,Jens Thomsen,Tore Tynes +18 more
TL;DR: The study suggests that there is no substantial risk of acoustic neuroma in the first decade after starting mobile phone use, however, an increase in risk after longer term use or after a longer lag period could not be ruled out.
Journal ArticleDOI
Time trends and ethnic patterns of childhood nephrotic syndrome in Yorkshire, UK.
TL;DR: The size of the population-based series reflects the relative rarity of paediatric nephrotic syndrome but is nonetheless recent and includes larger numbers than previous reports and contrasts with other paediatric immune mediated conditions such as asthma and diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Insulin VNTR allele-specific effect in type 1 diabetes depends on identity of untransmitted paternal allele
Simon T. Bennett,Amanda Wilson,Laura Esposito,Nourdine Bouzekri,Dag E. Undlien,Francesco Cucca,Lorenza Nisticò,Raffaella Buzzetti,Emanuele Bosi,Flemming Pociot,Jørn Nerup,Anne Cambon-Thomsen,Alberto Pugliese,Julian P.H. Shield,Patricia A. McKinney,Stephen C. Bain,Constantin Polychronakos,John A. Todd +17 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a particular class I allele does not predispose to disease when paternally inherited, suggestive of polymorphic imprinting, and this paternal effect is observed only when the father's untransmitted allele is a class III.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-hodgkin's lymphoma: Case control epidemiological study in Yorkshire
Raymond A. Cartwright,Patricia A. McKinney,C. O'brien,I. D. G. Richards,B. E. Roberts,I. Lauder,C. M. Darwin,Sylvia Bernard,C. C. Bird +8 more
TL;DR: A comparison of high and low grade morphological forms of disease reveal contrasting risks and suggest separate aetiologies for these conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mobile phone use and risk of glioma in adults: case-control study
S. J. Hepworth,Minouk J. Schoemaker,Kenneth Muir,Anthony J. Swerdlow,Martie van Tongeren,Patricia A. McKinney +5 more
TL;DR: Use of a mobile phone, either in the short or medium term, is not associated with an increased risk of glioma, and this is consistent with most but not all published studies.
