Journal ArticleDOI

Infant and Adult Gut Microbiome and Metabolome in Rural Bassa and Urban Settlers from Nigeria.

TL;DR: The high degree of microbial dispersal observed in the Bassa meta-community nullifies the differences between infant and adult intestinal ecosystems, suggesting that the infant-type microbiome in Western populations could be the result of microbiome-associated neotenic traits favored by urbanization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxalate consumption by lactobacilli : evaluation of oxalyl-CoA decarboxylase and formyl-CoA transferase activity in Lactobacillus acidophilus

TL;DR: Evaluated the oxalate‐degrading activity in several Lactobacillus species widely used in probiotic dairy and pharmaceutical preparations to assess the possible contribution of LactOBacillus in regulating the intestinal oxalates homeostasis.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Bacterial Ecosystem of Mother’s Milk and Infant’s Mouth and Gut

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the baby’s mouth, being the transition point for the milk to reach the intestine, could play a role in both the gut microbiota assembly, via deglutition, and mother's milk duct colonization, during suction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Novel probiotic candidates for humans isolated from raw fruits and vegetables

TL;DR: The results of this study showed that some autochthonous lactic acid bacteria from raw fruit and vegetables have functional features to be considered as novel probiotic candidates.
