First results from Alcator‐C‐MOD*
Ian H. Hutchinson,R. L. Boivin,F. Bombarda,Paul Bonoli,S. Fairfax,C.L. Fiore,John Goetz,S. Golovato,Robert Granetz,Martin Greenwald,S. Horne,Amanda Hubbard,J. H. Irby,Brian LaBombard,Bruce Lipschultz,E.S. Marmar,G.M. McCracken,M. Porkolab,J. E. Rice,J. A. Snipes,Yuichi Takase,J. L. Terry,S.M. Wolfe,C. Christensen,D. T. Garnier,M. Graf,T. Hsu,T. Luke,Mark May,A. Niemczewski,G. Tinios,J. Schachter,J. Urbahn +32 more
TL;DR: Early operation of the Alcator C-MOD tokamak [I.H. Hutchinson et al., 1990] is surveyed and the edge plasma shows a wealth of marfe-like phenomena, including a transition to detachment from the divertor plates with accompanying radiative divertor regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
ARC: A compact, high-field, fusion nuclear science facility and demonstration power plant with demountable magnets
Brandon Sorbom,Justin Ball,Timothy R. Palmer,F. J. Mangiarotti,J. M. Sierchio,Paul Bonoli,C.P. Kasten,D.A. Sutherland,Harold Barnard,Christian Bernt Haakonsen,J. Goh,Choongki Sung,Dennis G. Whyte +12 more
TL;DR: The robust, robust, compact (ARC) as discussed by the authors is the product of a conceptual design study aimed at reducing the size, cost and complexity of a combined fusion nuclear science facility (FNSF) and demonstration fusion Pilot power plant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simulation model for lower hybrid current drive
Paul Bonoli,R. Englade +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a simulation model for steady-state, lower hybrid current drive is described which incorporates a relativistic, one-dimensional Fokker-Planck calculation and a toroidal ray tracing code.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toroidal and scattering effects on lower‐hybrid wave propagation
Paul Bonoli,Edward Ott +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of toricity and density fluctuations on the propagation of lower-hybrid waves are studied, and it is shown that for accessible waves the optimal poloidal launch point is near the top or bottom of the torus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lower Hybrid Current Drive at High Density in Alcator C-Mod
Gregory Wallace,Amanda Hubbard,Paul Bonoli,Ian Faust,R. W. Harvey,Jerry Hughes,Brian LaBombard,Orso Meneghini,R.R. Parker,Andrea Schmidt,Andrea Schmidt,S. Shiraiwa,Alexander Smirnov,D.G. Whyte,James R. Wilson,John Wright,Stephen Wukitch +16 more
TL;DR: Experimental observations of lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) at high density on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak are presented in this article, where it is shown that the absence of fast electrons driven by LHCD may be due to parasitic collisional absorption in the scrape-off layer (SOL).
