Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple biomarker responses in Prochilodus lineatus subjected to short-term in situ exposure to streams from agricultural areas in Southern Brazil.
Carlos Eduardo Delfino Vieira,Patrícia Gomes Costa,Bruna Lunardelli,Luciana Fernandes de Oliveira,Liziara da Costa Cabrera,Wagner Ezequiel Risso,Ednei Gilberto Primel,Paulo C. Meletti,Gilberto Fillmann,Cláudia B.R. Martinez +9 more
TL;DR: Integrated biomarker analysis revealed that the alterations observed related well with the levels of environmental contaminants, demonstrating the effectiveness of this biomonitoring approach.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biomarkers of waterborne copper exposure in the Neotropical fish Prochilodus lineatus.
Juliana D. Simonato,Maritana Mela,Halina Binde Doria,Izonete Cristina Guiloski,Marco Antonio Ferreira Randi,Paulo S.M. Carvalho,Paulo C. Meletti,Helena Cristina Silva de Assis,Adalto Bianchini,Cláudia B.R. Martinez +9 more
TL;DR: The findings indicate that Cu exposure at environmentally relevant concentrations induced significant biological (histological, biochemical and genetic) and ecological and ecological damages in the Neotropical fish P. lineatus and suggest that MT concentration, DNA damage, LPO (TBARS method), SOD and AChE activity, together with swimming behavior analyses are potential biomarkers to assess and monitor areas impacted by Cu in fresh water.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute effects of sediments taken from an urban stream on physiological and biochemical parameters of the neotropical fish Prochilodus lineatus
TL;DR: In this article, a sample of Prochilodus lineatus was exposed to sediments collected from one of five sites along an urban stream into which various types of contaminants are discharged.
Journal ArticleDOI
Histological Changes in Gills of Two Fish Species as Indicators of Water Quality in Jansen Lagoon (São Luís, Maranhão State, Brazil)
Débora Martins Silva Santos,Mércia Regina S. Melo,Denise Carla da Silva Mendes,Iolanda Karoline B. S. Rocha,Jakeline Priscila L. Silva,Sildiane Martins Cantanhêde,Paulo C. Meletti +6 more
TL;DR: The presence of histological injuries and the HAI values indicate that the fish sampled from the Jansen Lagoon are reacting to non-specific xenobiotics present at the site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chromium accumulation and biomarker responses in the Neotropical fish Prochilodus lineatus caged in a river under the influence of tannery activities.
Bruna Lunardelli,Millena Terezinha Cabral,Carlos Eduardo Delfino Vieira,Luciana Fernandes de Oliveira,Wagner Ezequiel Risso,Paulo C. Meletti,Cláudia B.R. Martinez +6 more
TL;DR: TE affect the quality of the river and promote changes in biochemical biomarkers and Cr accumulation in P. lineatus.
