Review on fracture and crack propagation in weldments - A fracture mechanics perspective
Uwe Zerbst,Robert A. Ainsworth,H.Th. Beier,H. Pisarski,Zhiliang Zhang,Kamran Nikbin,Thomas Nitschke-Pagel,Sebastian Münstermann,Pawel Kucharczyk,Dietmar Klingbeil +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide an overview on the current state of fracture mechanics application to weldments and discuss the specific features which any fracture mechanics analysis of weldments has to take into account.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of the local and global weld geometry as well as material defects on crack initiation and fatigue strength
Benjamin Schork,Pawel Kucharczyk,Mauro Madia,Uwe Zerbst,Jonas Hensel,Julian Bernhard,Didi Tchuindjang,Matthias Kaffenberger,Matthias Oechsner +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of various parameters of the global and local weld geometry as well as material defects on the fatigue strength of weldments is investigated. And the results are in line with literature data and reveal the potential of the theoretical approach to predict the correct trends.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The Sandia Fracture Challenge as mentioned in this paper evaluated the blind, quantitative predictive ability of simulation methods against a previously unseen failure problem, which is relevant to a wide range of engineering scenarios.

Journal ArticleDOI
Fracture-mechanics based prediction of the fatigue strength of weldments. Material aspects
TL;DR: In this article, the IBESS approach was used to estimate the fatigue strength of weldments, where the material input information has been gained particularly for heat affected zone material by thermo-mechanically simulated material specimens for two steels of quite different static strength.
