Channelrhodopsin-2, a directly light-gated cation-selective membrane channel.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated by functional expression, both in oocytes of Xenopus laevis and mammalian cells, that ChR2 is a directly light-switched cation-selective ion channel, and may be used to depolarize small or large cells, simply by illumination.
Book

Bird Migration: A General Survey

Control of bird migration

Rapid microevolution of migratory behaviour in a wild bird species

TL;DR: It is reported that British wintering Blackcaps migrate west-northwest in autumn, a direction genetically distinct from the British breeding population and the predominantly southwestern migratory population of west–central Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assortative Mating as a Mechanism for Rapid Evolution of a Migratory Divide

TL;DR: It is shown that recently evolved allopatric wintering populations of European blackcaps Sylvia atricapilla pair assortatively on their sympatric breeding grounds, describing an important process in the evolution of migratory divides, new migration routes, and wintering quarters.
