Journal Article
The pathology of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders occurring in the setting of cyclosporine A-prednisone immunosuppression.
Michael A. Nalesnik,R. Jaffe,T. E. Starzl,Anthony J. Demetris,KA Porter,Burnham J,L Makowka,Ho M,Joseph Locker +8 more
TL;DR: Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLDs) were diagnosed in 43 patients from the Pittsburgh-Denver series between June 1980 and March 1987 and a histologic spectrum of lesions ranging from infectious mononucleosis to malignant lymphoma constitutes the entity known as PTLD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Update of the International Banff Schema for Liver Allograft Rejection: working recommendations for the histopathologic staging and reporting of chronic rejection. An International Panel.
Anthony J. Demetris,David H. Adams,Christopher Bellamy,Karin Blakolmer,Andrew D. Clouston,Amar P. Dhillon,John J. Fung,Annette S. H. Gouw,Bengt Gustafsson,Hironori Haga,David J. Journal Article
Antibody-mediated rejection of human orthotopic liver allografts. A study of liver transplantation across ABO blood group barriers.
Anthony J. Demetris,R. Jaffe,Andreas G. Tzakis,Glenn Ramsey,S. Todo,Steven H. Belle,Carlos O. Esquivel,Ron Shapiro,B.H. Markus,E Mroczek +9 more
TL;DR: Clinopathologic analysis of liver transplantation across major ABO blood group barriers confirmed that antibody mediated rejection of the liver occurs and allows for the development of criteria for establishing the diagnosis of humoral rejection.
Journal Article
Recurrent Hepatitis B in Liver Allograft Recipients Differentiation Between Viral Hepatitis B and Rejection
Anthony J. Demetris,R. Jaffe,Daniel G. Sheahan,Burnham J,Spero J,Iwatsuki S,Van Theil Dh,T. E. Starzl +7 more
TL;DR: Examination of tissue specimens obtained during episodes of allograft dysfunction in these 9 patients indicate that pathologic alterations of active HB infection of the allografted liver are associated with a preferential lobular insult, whereas those occurring in rejection preferentially involve portal tract structures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Occurrence of cytomegalovirus hepatitis in liver transplant patients.
Oscar Bronsther,Leonard Makowka,R. Jaffe,Anthony J. Demetris,Mary Kay Breinig,Monto Ho,Carlos O. Esquivel,RD Gordon,Shunzaburo Iwatsuki,A. G. Tzakis +9 more
TL;DR: The need for percutaneous liver biopsies is demonstrated to establish the diagnosis of pathologically proven CMV hepatitis following liver transplantation and all symptoms were also found in rejection.
