Journal ArticleDOI
Mammalian heparanase: gene cloning, expression and function in tumor progression and metastasis.
Israel Vlodavsky,Yael Friedmann,Michael Elkin,Helena Aingorn,Ruth Atzmon,Rivka Ishai-Michaeli,Menachem Bitan,Orit Pappo,Tuvia Peretz,Israel Michal,Larissa Spector,Iris Pecker +11 more
TL;DR: This represents the first cloned mammalian heparanase, to the authors' knowledge, and provides direct evidence for its role in tumor metastasis, and enables the development of specific molecular probes for early detection and treatment of cancer metastasis and autoimmune disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Update of the International Banff Schema for Liver Allograft Rejection: working recommendations for the histopathologic staging and reporting of chronic rejection. An International Panel.
Anthony J. Demetris,David H. Adams,Christopher Bellamy,Karin Blakolmer,Andrew D. Clouston,Amar P. Dhillon,John J. Fung,Annette S. H. Gouw,Bengt Gustafsson,Hironori Haga,David J. Journal ArticleDOI
mTOR Inhibition by Rapamycin Prevents β-Cell Adaptation to Hyperglycemia and Exacerbates the Metabolic State in Type 2 Diabetes
Merav Fraenkel,Mali Ketzinel-Gilad,Yafa Ariav,Orit Pappo,Melis Karaca,Julien Castel,Marie-France Berthault,Christophe Magnan,Erol Cerasi,Nurit Kaiser,Gil Leibowitz +10 more
TL;DR: The essential role of mTOR/S6K1 in orchestrating β-cell adaptation to hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes is emphasized and it is likely that treatments based on mTOR inhibition will cause exacerbation of diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ectopic lymphoid structures function as microniches for tumor progenitor cells in hepatocellular carcinoma
Shlomi Finkin,Detian Yuan,Ilan Stein,Koji Taniguchi,Achim Weber,Kristian Unger,Jeffrey L. Browning,Nicolas Goossens,Nicolas Goossens,Shigeki Nakagawa,Ganesh Gunasekaran,Myron Schwartz,Masahiro Kobayashi,Hiromitsu Kumada,Michael Berger,Orit Pappo,Klaus Rajewsky,Yujin Hoshida,Michael Karin,Mathias Heikenwalder,Mathias Heikenwalder,Yinon Ben-Neriah,Eli Pikarsky +22 more
TL;DR: It is found that hepatic ELSs indicated poor prognosis for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and they constituted immunopathological microniches wherein malignant hepatocyte progenitor cells appeared and thrived in a complex cellular and cytokine milieu until gaining self-sufficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nerve growth factor displays stimulatory effects on human skin and lung fibroblasts, demonstrating a direct role for this factor in tissue repair.
Alessandra Micera,Eliana Vigneti,Dalia Pickholtz,Reuven Reich,Orit Pappo,Sergio Bonini,François-Xavier Maquart,Luigi Aloe,Francesca Levi-Schaffer +8 more
TL;DR: Data show a direct pro-fibrogenic effect of NGF on skin and lung fibroblasts and therefore indicate a role for NGF in tissue repair and fibrosis.
