Journal ArticleDOI

A Sodium Transporter HvHKT1;1 Confers Salt Tolerance in Barley via Regulating Tissue and Cell Ion Homeostasis.

TL;DR: Results indicate that HvHKT1;1 is critical in radial root Na+ transport, which eventually reduces shoot Na+ accumulation and may be indirectly involved in retention of K+ and Ca2+ in root cells, which also improves plant salt tolerance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Stored xylem sap from wheat and barley in drying soil contains a transpiration inhibitor with a large molecular size

TL;DR: It is suggested that storage at -20°C causes the aggregation or polymerization of a small compound with low activity to form a large compound with high activity.
Book ChapterDOI

Breeding strategies for structuring salinity tolerance in wheat

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review the research around salinity tolerance in wheat in context of historical and rapidly evolving breeding technologies and discuss the future prospects, including new and improved genotyping assays in form of SNP arrays and next-generation sequencing to facilitate gene discovery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Turgor Pressure, Volumetric Elastic Modulus, Osmotic Volume and Ultrastructure of Chlorella emersonii Grown at High and Low External NaCl

TL;DR: Chlorella emersonii (211/1 In) was grown at external NaCl concentrations ranging between 10 and 335 mM (0-08-1-64 MPa) and showed that there was no significant change in the internal concentrations of Na+ or CI over this range, the concentrations remaining below 35 mM as mentioned in this paper.
