Characteristics of mesospheric gravity waves near the magnetic equator, Brazil, during the SpreadFEx campaign
Michael J. Taylor,Pierre-Dominique Pautet,Amauri Fragoso de Medeiros,Ricardo Buriti,Joaquim Fechine,David C. Fritts,Sharon L. Vadas,H. Takahashi,F. T. São Sabbas +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, optical and radio measurements were made from Brazil to investigate the occurrence and properties of equatorial Spread F, and to characterize the regional mesospheric grav-ity wave field.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ionospheric plasma bubble zonal drifts over the tropical region: a study using OI emission all-sky images
A. A. Pimenta,J. A. Bittencourt,Paulo Roberto Fagundes,Yogeshwar Sahai,Ricardo Buriti,H. Takahashi,Michael J. Taylor +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, all-sky images from Sao Joao do Cariri (7.4°S, 36.5°W) and from Cachoeira Paulista (22.7°S and 45.0°W), Brazil, between December 1999 and February 2000 (summer in the southern hemisphere), are analyzed in order to investigate the nocturnal and latitudinal behavior of the ionospheric plasma bubble zonal drift velocities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ionospheric zonal velocities at conjugate points over Brazil during the COPEX campaign: Experimental observations and theoretical validations
J. H. A. Sobral,M. A. Abdu,Todd Pedersen,Vivian M. Castilho,Daniela C. S. Arruda,Marcio T. A. H. Muella,Inez S. Batista,M. Mascarenhas,E. R. de Paula,Paul M. Kintner,E. A. Kherani,Amauri Fragoso de Medeiros,Ricardo Buriti,H. Takahashi,Nelson Jorge Schuch,Clezio Marcos Denardini,C.J. Zamlutti,A. A. Pimenta,J.R. de Souza,F. Bertoni +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the velocities of large-scale ionospheric plasma depletions over two conjugate stations inferred from OI 630 nm airglow all-sky images obtained during the Conjugate Point Equatorial Experiment (COPEX) campaign carried out in Brazil between October and November 2002 were analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climatology of the nighttime equatorial thermospheric winds and temperatures over Brazil near solar minimum
John W. Meriwether,Jonathan J. Makela,Y. Huang,Daniel J. Fisher,Ricardo Buriti,Amauri Fragoso de Medeiros,H. Takahashi +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report on the climatology of equatorial thermospheric winds and temperatures based on Fabry-Perot interferometer measurements of Doppler shifts and doppler broadenings of the 630.0 nm spectral emission from the Cajazeiras observatory located in the northeastern part of Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overview and summary of the Spread F Experiment (SpreadFEx)
David C. Fritts,M. A. Abdu,B. R. Batista,Inez S. Batista,Paulo Batista,Ricardo Buriti,Barclay Clemesha,Thomas Dautermann,E. R. de Paula,B. J. Fechine,Bela G. Fejer,Delano Gobbi,Jennifer S. Haase,Farzad Kamalabadi,E. A. Kherani,Brian Laughman,P. P. Lima,Hanli Liu,Amauri Fragoso de Medeiros,Pierre-Dominique Pautet,Dennis M. Riggin,Fabiano S. Rodrigues,F. T. São Sabbas,J. H. A. Sobral,P. Stamus,H. Takahashi,Michael J. Taylor,Sharon L. Vadas,Fabio Vargas,Cristiano Max Wrasse +29 more
TL;DR: The Spread F Experiment (or SpreadFEx) as mentioned in this paper performed from September to November 2005, with primary measurements in Brazil, was used to define the potential role of neutral atmosphere dynamics, specifically gravity wave motions propagating upward from the lower atmosphere, in seeding Rayleigh-Taylor instability and plasma bubbles extending to higher altitudes.
