Journal ArticleDOI
Heat stroke leading to acute liver injury & failure: A case series from the Acute Liver Failure Study Group
Brian C. Davis,Holly Tillman,Raymond T. Chung,Richard T. Stravitz,Rajender Reddy,Robert J. Fontana,Brendan M. McGuire,Timothy Davern,William M. Lee +8 more
TL;DR: Cases of acute liver injury (ALI) or failure (ALF) caused by heat stroke in a large ALF registry is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive Intracranial Pressure Assessment in Acute Liver Failure
Venkatakrishna Rajajee,Craig A. Williamson,Robert J. Fontana,Anthony J. Courey,Parag G. Patil +4 more
TL;DR: In patients with ALF, neither ONSD nor TCD-PI reliably detected concurrent ICP elevation on invasive monitoring, andEstimation of ICP (ICPtcd) using the TCD CPPe technique was associated with concurrent I CP elevation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emotional Distress During Interferon-α-2B and Ribavirin Treatment of Chronic Hepatitis C
TL;DR: The Brief Symptom Inventory may prove to be a useful adjunct to clinician assessment in detecting and monitoring emotional distress during interferon-α treatment of chronic hepatitis C.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatitis B infection in patients with acute liver failure in the United States
Eng-Kiong Teo,George Ostapowicz,Munira Hussain,William M. Lee,Robert J. Fontana,Anna S.F. Lok +5 more
TL;DR: HBV precore and/or core promoter variants were common among US patients with ALF caused by hepatitis B, and occult HBV infection was not present in this large series of ALF patients in the United States.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changes in mood states and biomarkers during peginterferon and ribavirin treatment of chronic hepatitis C.
Robert J. Fontana,Ziad Kronfol,Karen L. Lindsay,Linas A. Bieliauskas,Latha Padmanabhan,Carla Back-Madruga,Anna S.F. Lok,Anne M Stoddard +7 more
TL;DR: Depression during peginterferon and ribavirin therapy was associated with a lower antiviral response, and a significant reduction in whole blood serotonin levels over time suggest that further studies of the serotonergic pathway are warranted to identify the mediators of interferon-induced depression.
