Journal ArticleDOI
Controversies in the management of hepatitis C patients with advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
YKL-40 genetic polymorphisms and the risk of liver disease progression in patients with advanced fibrosis due to chronic hepatitis C.
Robert J. Fontana,Heather J. Litman,Jules L. Dienstag,Herbert L. Bonkovsky,Grace L. Su,Richard K. Sterling,Anna S. Lok +6 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to explore the association of a functional YKL‐40 promoter polymorphism with baseline disease stage, response to antiviral therapy and risk of liver disease progression in a group of patients with chronic hepatitis C.
Journal ArticleDOI
IL-28B polymorphisms and the response to antiviral therapy in HCV genotype 2 and 3 varies by ethnicity: a meta-analysis.
TL;DR: The favourable IL‐28B genotype is a statistically significant predictor of SVR and RVR in Caucasian patients treated with pegIFN and ribavirin for 24 weeks, and is associated with RVR, but not SVR in Asian HCV genotype 2 patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bariatric surgery and the risk of alcohol‐related cirrhosis and alcohol misuse
Jessica L. Mellinger,Kerby Shedden,G. Scott Winder,Anne C. Fernandez,Brian Lee,Jennifer F. Waljee,Robert J. Fontana,Michael L. Volk,Frederic C. Blow,Anna S.F. Lok +9 more
TL;DR: This work aimed to determine if bariatric surgery is associated with increased risk of alcohol‐related cirrhosis (AC) and alcohol misuse and to investigate the links between these risks and reported cases of alcohol misuse.
Journal ArticleDOI

Campbell,Tarek Hassanein,Fatma Barakat,Alistair Smith +58 more
TL;DR: Although not an independent predictor of mortality, HA in ALF was present in all etiologies and was associated with diminished overall survival and appeared to be related to renal dysfunction in both groups and multiorgan failure in non-APAP ALF.
