100-micron array polarimetry from the Kuiper Airborne Observatory - Instrumentation, techniques, and first results

TL;DR: The University of Chicago far-infrared array polarimeter (STOKES) as discussed by the authors is the first multiple-beam polarimeter for far infrared astronomy, which is used to detect two orthogonal components of linear polarization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polarization of the Thermal Emission from the Dust Ring at the Center of the Galaxy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present new results on the polarization of the far-infrared emission from the dust ring at the center of the Galaxy. But the results show that the ring and field cannot both have ideal symmetry, and the dispersion of the measured position angles about the directions computed from the self-similar model of Wardle & Konigl (1990) is comparable to the mean values observed in the most orderly dark clouds
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterizing Magnetized Turbulence in M51

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used high-resolution synchrotron polarization data to perform an angular dispersion analysis with the aim of characterizing magnetized turbulence in the galaxy M51.
