TL;DR: A review of the progress accomplished since the redaction of the first ITER Physics Basis (1999 Nucl Fusion 39 2137-664) in the field of energetic ion physics and its possible impact on burning plasma regimes is presented in this paper.

TL;DR: In this paper, high fusion power experiments using DT mixtures in ELM-free H mode and optimized shear regimes in JET are reported, and a fusion power of 16.1 MW has been produced in an ELM free H mode at 4.2 MA/3.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimization of computational MHD normal-mode analysis for tokamaks
TL;DR: In this paper, a set of MHD equations that are optimized for specific tokamak conditions is derived and implemented in the new ideal-MHD code MISHKA-1, which allows the study of problems that are described by non-self-adjoint MHD operators.
Journal ArticleDOI
The HAGIS self-consistent nonlinear wave-particle interaction model
S. D. Pinches,L. C. Appel,Jeff Candy,S. E. Sharapov,Herbert L Berk,D. N. Borba,Boris Breizman,T. C. Hender,Keith I. Hopcraft,G. T.A. Huysmans,Wolfgang Kerner +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the problem of modeling the selfconsistent interaction of an energetic particle ensemble with a wave spectrum specific to magnetically confined plasmas in a torus is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Theoretical Interpretation of Alfvén Cascades in Tokamaks with Nonmonotonic q Profiles
TL;DR: Alfv\'en spectra in a reversed-shear tokamak plasma with a population of energetic ions exhibit a quasiperiodic pattern of primarily upward frequency sweeping as mentioned in this paper.
