Terahertz-field-induced insulator-to-metal transition in vanadium dioxide metamaterial

TL;DR: The observation of an insulator–metal transition in vanadium dioxide induced by a terahertz electric field is reported, demonstrating that integration of metamaterials with complex matter is a viable pathway to realize functional nonlinear electromagnetic composites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anisotropic Electronic State via Spontaneous Phase Separation in Strained Vanadium Dioxide Films

TL;DR: The enigma of anisotropic electronic transport in strained vanadium dioxide (VO2) films is resolved by inquiring into the role that strain plays in the nanoscale phase separation in the vicinity of the insulator-to-metal transition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Direct Observation of Decoupled Structural and Electronic Transitions and an Ambient Pressure Monocliniclike Metallic Phase of VO 2

TL;DR: The results provide conclusive evidence that the new monocliniclike metallic phase, recently identified in high-pressure and nonequilibrium measurements, is accessible in the thermodynamic transition at ambient pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Large epitaxial bi-axial strain induces a Mott-like phase transition in VO2

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the large tensile strain on the properties of VO2 films was investigated, and it was shown that highly strained epitaxial VO2 thin films were rutile in the insulating state as well as in the metallic state.
