TL;DR: The results show that doxycycline reshapes α-synuclein oligomers into off-pathway, high-molecular-weight species that do not evolve into fibrils, which could act synergically giving novel targets for repurposing this drug.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the toxic effect exerted by α-synuclein oligomers in dopaminergic cell culture is abolished in the presence of GAPDH prefibrillar species, which could open a novel therapeutic strategy for synucleinopathies like Parkinson disease.
