Journal ArticleDOI

Six different cytokines that share GP130 as a receptor subunit, induce serum amyloid A and potentiate the induction of interleukin-6 and the activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis by interleukin-1.

TL;DR: Results indicate that signaling through gp130 mediates potentiation of IL-1 activities, and that gp130-dependent cytokines may be important feedback regulators of inflammation through the activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and the potentiated of acute-phase protein synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carrageenan-induced acute inflammation in the mouse air pouch synovial model. Role of tumour necrosis factor

TL;DR: The air pouch seems to be a good model for studying the regulation of the early events of local inflammation, particularly the role of cytokines and cell migration in the first phase of the inflammatory process.
Journal ArticleDOI

Corticosteroid-independent inhibition of tumor necrosis factor production by the neuropeptide urocortin.

TL;DR: In mice, UCN significantly reduced lipopolysaccharide-induced serum tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and interleukin (IL)-1β levels in vivo but did not affect serum IL-6, and the in vivo inhibition of LPS-induced IL-1β by UCN was reversed by cyanoketone, indicating that the increase of endogenous glucocorticoids might be more important in IL- 1β inhibition than in TNF inhibition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism of the inhibitory effect of melatonin on tumor necrosis factor production in vivo and in vitro.

TL;DR: Melatonin exerted its inhibitory effect in adrenalectomized or hypophysectomized mice also, indicating that its effect is independent of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physiological and cytokine responses in IL-1 beta-deficient mice after zymosan-induced inflammation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that IL-1 beta plays a significant, although not exclusive, role in the physiological and cytokine responses to zymosan-mediated inflammation.
