TL;DR: A CFD based model is proposed for indoor risk assessment considering accidental release of a sustained, small, undetected leak of a dense toxic gas (chlorine) in an industrial indoor environment and results show that the denser chlorine gas spreads like a liquid and flows all along the floor.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the feasibility of three heat removal strategies: (a) using cooling plates through which cathode air is passed in excess of stoichiometric requirement for the purpose of heat removal, (b) using forced convection partly in conjunction with cooling plates, and (c) using forcing convection alone for heat removal.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of some of the parameters of underground coal gasification was investigated using pure oxygen or oxygen and steam as the gasifying agent, and it was shown that, unlike recent reports in the literature, product gas of reasonably high calorific value can be produced on a sustained basis without having to use highly superheated steam.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered underground coal gasification as a hydrogen generator and investigated the possibility of coupling it with a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) to generate electrical power directly.

TL;DR: In this article, a new variant to the oxy-coal combustion in a pulverized coal burner is proposed in which CO 2 -enriched flue gas is used to moderate the flame temperature in conventional oxy-fuel combustion.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of CO2 addition through exhaust gas recirculation on the combustion chemistry of an oxy-methane flame has been investigated and a flame structure analysis of various combinations of methane-oxidant flames has been carried out using the GRI 30 325-step mechanism.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are used to produce electrical power for underground coal gasification (UCG), which is a potential clean coal technology which converts coal into combustible gas in situ.

28 citations

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the possibility of using cathode air to act as coolant of the cell as well as the supplier of the heat required for hydrogen desorption from a sodium alanate-based hydrogen storage system.

TL;DR: In this paper, an experimental and theoretical assessment is made of the possibility of retrofitting an existing pulverized coal boiler for electrical power generation in India, where coal is the mainstay of electrical power generating in India.

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation of oxy-fuel combustion carried out in a co-axial, horizontally-fired swirl-stabilized burner was carried out, and the results of extinction studies with CO2 or nitrogen dilution indicate that CO2-diluted flames are more prone to extinction by dilution than N2 diluted flames, whereas the latter can be sustained at oxygen concentrations down to 15% by volume.
