Journal ArticleDOI
α-Synuclein Amyloids Hijack Prion Protein to Gain Cell Entry, Facilitate Cell-to-Cell Spreading and Block Prion Replication.
Suzana Aulic,Lara Masperone,Joanna Narkiewicz,Elisa Isopi,Edoardo Bistaffa,Edoardo Bistaffa,Elena Ambrosetti,Elena Ambrosetti,Beatrice Pastore,Elena De Cecco,Denis Scaini,Denis Scaini,Paola Zago,Fabio Moda,Fabrizio Tagliavini,Giuseppe Legname,Giuseppe Legname +16 more
TL;DR: In vitro data revealed that the presence of PrPC fosters the higher uptake of α-Syn amyloid fibrils, which was also confirmed in vivo in wild type (Prnp+/+) compared to PrP knock-out mice, indicating a link between the two proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defined α-synuclein prion-like molecular assemblies spreading in cell culture.
Suzana Aulic,Tran Thanh Nhat Le,Fabio Moda,Saïda Abounit,Stefania Corvaglia,Loredana Casalis,Stefano Gustincich,Chiara Zurzolo,Fabrizio Tagliavini,Giuseppe Legname,Giuseppe Legname +10 more
TL;DR: Using α- Synuclein short amyloid fibrils as seed, endogenous α-syn aggregates and accumulates over several passages in cell culture, providing an excellent tool for potential therapeutic screening of pathogenic α- synuclein aggregates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Computational Alanine Scanning and Structural Analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein/Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 Complex.
TL;DR: These results could be used to estimate the binding affinity of the viral protein to different allelic variants of ACE2 receptors discovered in COVID-19 patients and for the effective structure-based design and development of neutralizing antibodies, vaccines, and protein/protein inhibitors against this terrible new coronavirus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of Rad51 and DNA repair in cancer: A molecular perspective.
Erik Laurini,Domenico Marson,Alice Fermeglia,Suzana Aulic,Maurizio Fermeglia,Sabrina Pricl,Sabrina Pricl +6 more
TL;DR: An overview of the main DNA repair pathways, with special focus on the role played by homologous repair and the RAD51 recombinase protein in the cellular DNA damage response, and a survey of the most promising therapeutic strategies aimed at targeting RAD51 in experimental oncology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Small-Molecule Theranostic Probes: A Promising Future in Neurodegenerative Diseases
TL;DR: The salient traits of these small molecules that are able to detect and modulate aggregated forms of several proteins involved in protein misfolding diseases are reviewed.
