Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiology, clinical manifestations, pathogenesis and laboratory detection of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections.
TL;DR: The reductive evolutionary process that has led to the minimal genome of M. pneumoniae suggests that it exists as a highly specialized parasitic bacterium capable of residing in an intracellular state within the respiratory tissues, occasionally emerging to produce symptoms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Macrolide-resistant mycoplasma pneumoniae in the United States as determined from a national surveillance program
Ken B. Waites,Amy E. Ratliff,Donna M. Crabb,Li Xiao,Xuan Qin,Rangaraj Selvarangan,Yi-Wei Tang,Xiaotian Zheng,J. Dien Bard,Tao Hong,M. Prichard,Edward G. Brooks,Steven D. Dallas,Lynn B. Duffy,Emily Mixon,Karen B. Fowler,Thomas Prescott Atkinson +16 more
TL;DR: Patients with MRMp were more likely to have received a macrolide prior to presentation, and their treatment was morelikely to have been changed to a fluoroquinolone after presentation, in the first national surveillance program for M. pneumoniae in the United States.
Journal ArticleDOI
Immune deficiency and autoimmunity.
TL;DR: An overview of the new concepts regarding the complex relationship between the genetic immune deficiencies and autoimmunity is provided to provide important insights into the underlying pathogenic processes and ultimately better diagnosis and treatment for the patient.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Characterization of Mycoplasma pneumoniae Isolates in the United States from 2012 to 2018.
Li Xiao,Amy E. Ratliff,Donna M. Crabb,Emily Mixon,Xuan Qin,Rangaraj Selvarangan,Y-W Tang,Xiaotian Zheng,J. Dien Bard,Tao Hong,M. Prichard,Edward G. Brooks,Steven D. Dallas,Lynn B. Duffy,Karen B. Fowler,Thomas Prescott Atkinson,Ken B. Waites +16 more
TL;DR: To investigate the M. pneumoniae genotype shift and its impact on clinical presentations, additional surveillance programs targeting more diverse populations and prolonged sampling times are required.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Efficacy, Safety and Tolerability of a New Subcutaneous Immunoglobulin 16.5% (Octanorm [Cutaquig®]) in the Treatment of Patients With Primary Immunodeficiencies
Roger H. Kobayashi,Sudhir Gupta,Isaac Melamed,J. Fernando Mandujano,Ai Lan Kobayashi,Bruce Ritchie,Bob Geng,Thomas Prescott Atkinson,Syed M. Rehman,Eva Turpel-Kantor,Jiří Litzman +10 more
TL;DR: The new 16.5% SCIG octanorm was shown to be efficacious in preventing infections in PIDs, and was well tolerated.
