Asbestos Causes Stimulation of the Extracellular Signal-regulated Kinase 1 Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase Cascade after Phosphorylation of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor

TL;DR: These studies are the first to establish that a MAP kinase signal transduction pathway is initiated after phosphorylation of a peptide growth factor receptor following exposure to asbestos fibers.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of membranes in the mechanism of action of the antineoplastic agent adriamycin. Spin-labeling studies with chronically hypoxic and drug-resistant tumor cells

TL;DR: Electron spin resonance spectroscopy data suggest that the physical alterations in the membrane reported by the spin label may be functionally linked to biological alterations in sensitivity to adriamycin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adriamycin: a proposal on the specificity of drug action.

TL;DR: Evidence exists which indicates that certain neoplastic cells may contain cardiolipin in their plasma membrane and thus present a different surface to the drug than a non-malignant cell, which may be indicative of specificity in the cytotoxic action of adriamycin on tumors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adriamycin-induced changes in the surface membrane of sarcoma 180 ascites cells

TL;DR: The results indicate that adriamycin can induce changes in the surface membrane of Sarcoma 180 cells within a brief period of exposure to a low but cytotoxic level of this agent.
