Elemental and isotopic composition of occluded O2 and N2 in polar ice

TL;DR: In this paper, a procedure has been developed to measure the relative concentrations of N2, O2, Ar, the δ18O of O2 and N2 trapped in Antarctic and Greenland ice cores.
Journal ArticleDOI

Late Quaternary atmospheric CH4 isotope record suggests marine clathrates are stable.

TL;DR: Analyses of air trapped in the ice from the second Greenland ice sheet project show stable and/or decreasing δDCH4 values during the end of the Younger and Older Dryas periods and one stadial period, suggesting that marine clathrates were stable during these abrupt warming episodes.
Journal ArticleDOI

δ15N of N2 in air trapped in polar ice: A tracer of gas transport in the firn and a possible constraint on ice age-gas age differences

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the barometric equation to calculate the thickness of the diffusive air column, and found that it comprised 46 to 93% of the total firn thickness at their study sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Climatic interpretation of the recently extended Vostok ice records

TL;DR: A new ice core from the Russian station of Vostok in Antarctica reached 2755 m depth in September 1993 and was estimated to have an age of 260 ky BP (±25) as mentioned in this paper.
