East Greenland ice core dust record reveals timing of Greenland ice sheet advance and retreat
Marius Folden Simonsen,Giovanni Baccolo,Thomas Blunier,Alejandra Borunda,Barbara Delmonte,Robert Frei,Steven L. Goldstein,Steven L. Goldstein,Aslak Grinsted,Helle Astrid Kjær,Todd Sowers,Anders Svensson,Bo Møllesøe Vinther,Diana Vladimirova,Gisela Winckler,Gisela Winckler,Mai Winstrup,Paul Vallelonga +17 more
TL;DR: A continuous ice core dust record from the Renland ice cap on the east coast of Greenland is used to constrain the timing of changes to the ice sheet margin and relative sea level over the last glacial cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI
An interlaboratory comparison of techniques for extracting and analyzing trapped gases in ice cores
Todd Sowers,Edward J. Brook,Edward J. Brook,David Etheridge,Thomas Blunier,A. Fuchs,Markus Leuenberger,Jérôme Chappellaz,J. M. Barnola,Martin Wahlen,B. L. Deck,Connie Weyhenmeyer +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, an interlaboratory comparison of techniques used to extract and analyze trapped gases in ice cores was conducted, which included analyses of standard reference gases and samples of ice from the Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 (GISP2) site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Controls on the movement and composition of firn air at the West Antarctic Ice Sheet Divide
M. O. Battle,Jeffrey P. Severinghaus,E. D. Sofen,E. D. Sofen,D. A. Plotkin,Anais Orsi,Murat Aydin,Stephen A. Montzka,Todd Sowers,P. P. Tans +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors sampled interstitial air from the perennial snowpack (firn) at a site near the West Antarctic Ice Sheet Di- vide (WAIS-D) and analyzed the air samples for a wide vari- ety of gas species and their isotopes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Production of N2O by ammonia oxidizing bacteria at subfreezing temperatures as a model for assessing the N2O anomalies in the vostok ice core
TL;DR: In this article, the ability of Nitrosomonas cryotolerans cells to produce N 2 O at subfreezing temperatures was examined and it was shown that these frozen cultures produce N O at temperatures as low as −32°C.
Journal ArticleDOI
The SP19 chronology for the South Pole Ice Core – Part 1: volcanic matching and annual layer counting
D. Winski,Tyler J. Fudge,David G. Ferris,Erich C. Osterberg,John M. Fegyveresi,Jihong Cole-Dai,Z. R. Thundercloud,Thomas S. Cox,Karl J. Kreutz,Nikolas Ortman,Christo Buizert,Jenna Epifanio,Edward J. Brook,R. Beaudette,Jeffrey P. Severinghaus,Todd Sowers,Eric J. Steig,Emma C. Kahle,Tyler R. Jones,Valerie Morris,Murat Aydin,M. R. Nicewonger,Kimberly A. Casey,Kimberly A. Casey,Richard B. Alley,Edwin D. Waddington,Nels Iverson,Nelia W. Dunbar,R. C. Bay,Joseph M. Souney,Michael Sigl,Joseph R. McConnell +31 more
TL;DR: The South Pole Ice Core (SPICEcore) was used to provide a detailed multi-proxy archive of paleoclimate conditions in East Antarctica during the Holocene and late Pleistocene.
