Circadian Rhythm of Redox State Regulates Excitability in Suprachiasmatic Nucleus Neurons
Tongfei A. Wang,Yanxun V. Yu,Gubbi Govindaiah,Xiaoying Ye,Liana Artinian,Todd P. Coleman,Jonathan V. Sweedler,Charles L. Cox,Martha U. Gillette +8 more
TL;DR: The redox oscillation could determine the excitability of SCN neurons through nontranscriptional modulation of multiple potassium (K+) channels and dynamic regulation ofSCN excitability appears to be closely tied to metabolism that engages the clockwork machinery.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common variants associated with general and MMR vaccine-related febrile seizures
Bjarke Feenstra,Björn Pasternak,Frank Geller,Lisbeth Carstensen,Tongfei A. Wang,Fen Huang,Jennifer L. Eitson,Mads V. Hollegaard,Henrik Svanström,Mogens Vestergaard,David M. Hougaard,John W. Schoggins,Lily Yeh Jan,Mads Melbye,Anders Hviid +14 more
TL;DR: Four loci were associated with febrile seizures in general, implicating the sodium channel genes SCN1A and SCN2A, a TMEM16 family gene (ANO3) and a region associated with magnesium levels (12q21.33) and the functional relevance of ANO3 (TMEM16C) with electrophysiological experiments in wild-type and knockout rats is shown.
Journal ArticleDOI
EAG2 potassium channel with evolutionarily conserved function as a brain tumor target
Xi Huang,Xi Huang,Ye He,Adrian M. Dubuc,Rintaro Hashizume,Wei Zhang,Jüri Reimand,Huanghe Yang,Huanghe Yang,Tongfei A. Wang,Samantha J. Stehbens,Susan Younger,Suzanne Barshow,Sijun Zhu,Michael K. Cooper,John Peacock,Vijay Ramaswamy,Livia Garzia,Xiaochong Wu,Marc Remke,Craig M. Forester,Charles C. Kim,William A. Weiss,C. David James,Marc A. Shuman,Gary D. Bader,Sabine Mueller,Michael D. Taylor,Yuh Nung Jan,Lily Yeh Jan +29 more
TL;DR: It is found that the EAG2 (Ether-a-go-go 2) potassium channel has an evolutionarily conserved function for promoting brain tumor growth and metastasis, delineate downstream pathways, and uncover a mechanism for different potassium channels to functionally cooperate and regulate mitotic cell volume and tumor progression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Thermoregulation via Temperature-Dependent PGD2 Production in Mouse Preoptic Area.
Tongfei A. Wang,Chin Fen Teo,Malin Åkerblom,Chao Chen,Marena Tynan-La Fontaine,Vanille J. Greiner,Aaron Diaz,Michael T. McManus,Yuh Nung Jan,Lily Yeh Jan +9 more
TL;DR: This study revealed that rising temperature of POA alters the activity of Ptgds-expressing neurons so as to increase PGD2 production, a negative feedback loop for thermoregulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cellular mechanism for spontaneous calcium oscillations in astrocytes.
TL;DR: InsP3R-induced ER Ca 2+ release is an important cellular mechanism for the initiation of spontaneous Ca2+ oscillation in hippocampal astrocytes.
