The COS/UVES absorption survey of the Magellanic stream. III. ionization, total mass, and inflow rate onto the Milky Way
Andrew J. Fox,Bart P. Wakker,Kathleen A. Barger,Kathleen A. Barger,Audra K. Hernandez,Philipp Richter,Philipp Richter,Nicolas Lehner,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Jane C. Charlton,Tobias Westmeier,Christopher Thom,Jason Tumlinson,Toru Misawa,J. Christopher Howk,L. Matthew Haffner,L. Matthew Haffner,Justin Ely,Paola Rodriguez-Hidalgo,Paola Rodriguez-Hidalgo,Nimisha Kumari,Nimisha Kumari +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the gas ionization level using a sample of 69 Hubble Space Telescope/Cosmic Origins Spectrograph sightlines that pass through or within 30° of the 21 cm emitting regions, finding that 81% (56/69) of the sightlines show UV absorption at Magellanic velocities.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Census of Intrinsic Narrow Absorption Lines in the Spectra of Quasars at z = 2-4*
Toru Misawa,Jane C. Charlton,Michael Eracleous,Rajib Ganguly,David Tytler,David Tytler,David Kirkman,David Kirkman,Nao Suzuki,Nao Suzuki,Dan Lubin,Dan Lubin +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify 150 NAL systems, which contain 124 C IV, 12 N V, and 50 Si IV doublets, of which 18 are associated systems (within 5000 km s-1 of the quasar redshift).
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical spectropolarimetry of SN 2002ap: A high-velocity asymmetric explosion

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present spectropolarimetry of Type Ic supernova SN 2002ap and give a preliminary analysis: the data were taken at two epochs, close to and 1 month later than the visual maximum (2002 February 8).

Results of monitoring the dramatically variable CIV mini-broad absorption line system in the quasar HS 1603+3820
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present six new and two previously published high-resolution spectra of the quasar HS 1603+3820 (zem = 2.542) taken over an interval of 4.2 years (1.2 yr in the rest frame) taken with the Subaru telescope and the Medium Resolution Spectrograph on the Hobby-Eberly Telescope.
