Journal ArticleDOI
Early control of PTH and FGF23 in normophosphatemic CKD patients: a new target in CKD-MBD therapy?
Rodrigo Bueno de Oliveira,Ana L.E. Cancela,Fabiana G. Graciolli,Luciene M. dos Reis,Sergio Antonio Draibe,Lilian Cuppari,Aluizio B. Carvalho,Vanda Jorgetti,Maria Eugênia Fernandes Canziani,Rosa M.A. Moysés +9 more
TL;DR: Prospective and long-term studies are necessary to confirm the effects of sevelamer on serum FGF23 and the benefits of this decrease on outcomes and the positive effects of early prescription of phosphate binders on PTH control.
Journal ArticleDOI
Repression of osteocyte Wnt/β‐catenin signaling is an early event in the progression of renal osteodystrophy
Yves Sabbagh,Fabiana G. Graciolli,Stephen J. O'Brien,Wen Tang,Luciene M. dos Reis,Susan Ryan,Lucy Phillips,Joseph Boulanger,Wenping Song,Christina Bracken,Shiguang Liu,Steven R. Ledbetter,Paul C. Dechow,Maria Eugênia Fernandes Canziani,Aluizio B. Carvalho,Vanda Jorgetti,Rosa M.A. Moysés,Susan C. Schiavi +17 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed that jck mice develop progressive biochemical changes in CKD‐MBD and suggested that repression of the Wnt/β‐catenin pathway is involved in the pathogenesis of renal osteodystrophy.
Journal ArticleDOI
K/DOQI-recommended intact PTH levels do not prevent low-turnover bone disease in hemodialysis patients.
Fellype C. Barreto,Daniela V. Barreto,Rosa M.A. Moysés,Katia R. Neves,Maria Eugênia Fernandes Canziani,Sergio Antonio Draibe,Vanda Jorgetti,Aluizio B. Carvalho +7 more
TL;DR: The study suggests that the iPTH target recommended by the K/DOQI guidelines was associated with a high incidence of low-turnover bone disease, suggesting that other biochemical markers may be required to accurately measure bone-remodeling status in hemodialysis patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic Accuracy of Bone Turnover Markers and Bone Histology in Patients With CKD Treated by Dialysis
Stuart M. Sprague,Ezequiel Bellorin-Font,Vanda Jorgetti,Aluizio B. Carvalho,Hartmut H. Malluche,Aníbal Ferreira,Patrick C. D'Haese,Tilman B. Drüeke,Hongyan Du,Thomas Manley,Eudocia Rojas,Sharon M. Moe +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the parathyroid hormone (PTH) concentration was used to discriminate low from nonlow and high from nonhigh BFR/BS, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve > 0.70 but not more than 323.0pg/mL.
Journal ArticleDOI
Skeletal Overexpression of Noggin Results in Osteopenia and Reduced Bone Formation
R. D. Devlin,Z. Du,Renata C. Pereira,R. B. Kimble,Aris N. Economides,Vanda Jorgetti,Ernesto Canalis +6 more
TL;DR: Transgenic mice overexpressing noggin in the bone microenvironment have decreased trabecular bone volume and impaired osteoblastic function, leading to osteopenia and fractures.
