The prevalence, distribution, and clinical outcomes of electrocardiographic repolarization patterns in male athletes of African/Afro-Caribbean origin
Michael Papadakis,François Carré,Gaelle Kervio,John Rawlins,Vasileios F. Panoulas,Navin Chandra,Sandeep Basavarajaiah,Lorna Carby,Tiago Fonseca,Sanjay Sharma +9 more
TL;DR: T-wave inversions in leads V1-V4 appear to represent an ethnic variant of 'athlete's heart' and may represent the initial expression of underlying cardiomyopathy and merit further evaluation and regular surveillance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hypertension in rheumatoid arthritis.
Vasileios F. Panoulas,Giorgos S. Metsios,A. V. Pace,Holly John,Gareth J. Treharne,M.J. Banks,George D. Kitas +6 more
TL;DR: The mechanisms that may lead to increased blood pressure in patients with RA are discussed, paying particular attention to commonly used drugs for the treatment of RA, and screening strategies and management algorithms for HT are suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and associations of hypertension and its control in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Vasileios F. Panoulas,Karen M J Douglas,Haralampos J. Milionis,A. Stavropoulos-Kalinglou,Peter Nightingale,M. D. Kita,A. L. Tselios,Giorgos S. Metsios,M. S. Elisaf,George D. Kitas +9 more
TL;DR: HT is highly prevalent in RA, under-diagnosed particularly in the young, and under-treated particularly in old RA patients with CVD, and those with any cardiovascular comorbidity may require particularly aggressive monitoring and treatment strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased left ventricular trabeculation in highly trained athletes: do we need more stringent criteria for the diagnosis of left ventricular non-compaction in athletes?
Sabiha Gati,Navin Chandra,Rachel Bennett,Matthew Reed,Gaelle Kervio,Vasileios F. Panoulas,Saqib Ghani,Nabeel Sheikh,Abbas Zaidi,Matthew Wilson,Michael Papadakis,François Carré,Sanjay Sharma +12 more
TL;DR: A high proportion of young athletes exhibit conventional criteria for LVNC highlighting the non-specific nature of current diagnostic criteria if applied to elite athletic populations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Azeem Latib,Toru Naganuma,Mohamed Abdel-Wahab,Haim D. Danenberg,Linda Cota,Marco Barbanti,Helmut Baumgartner,Ariel Finkelstein,Victor Legrand,José Suárez de Lezo,Joelle Kefer,David Messika-Zeitoun,Gert Richardt,Eugenio Stabile,Gerrit Kaleschke,Alec Vahanian,Jean Claude Laborde,Martin B. Leon,John G. Webb,Vasileios F. Panoulas,Francesco Maisano,Ottavio Alfieri,Antonio Colombo +22 more
TL;DR: THV thrombosis is a rare phenomenon that was detected within the first 2 years after transcatheter aortic valve implantation and usually presented with dyspnea and increased gradients, and anticoagulation seems to have been effective and should be considered even in patients without visible thrombus on echocardiography.
